2/2/16 - North Carolina signee. 6-foot-4, 190 pound right hander with a tall athletic projectable body. Loose live quick arm at a ¾ arm slot. Arm is short in back and hides ball in back to create deception. Lands slightly across the body. Fastball was 89-94 mph with late life down in the zone. Flattened out a bit when he got the ball up. Ball really jumps down in the zone. Curveball was ML average and mostly a ¾ breaker but occasionally was a downer with depth at 73-75 mph. Showed a very good changeup in warmups at 78-79 mph with the same fastball life, but didn’t use it in the game. Threw 3 innings and was mostly 90-92 mph the first 2 innings and 93-94 mph the last inning with a better curveball at 75 mph. His stuff was better when he gets his release point out front. Gave up 1 hit and 3 K’s. A good start to the season. Should be a first round pick.

2/6/15 - FB touched 96 mph early on and settled in at 92-93 mph with good life. First 2 innings was cruising, throwing a ton of strikes. #3rd inning hit 2 batters and walked a bunch. 2.2 innings, 1 hit, 2 runs, 4 BB, 3 K.

1/27/15 - Tall loose lean athletic projectable body with strength in hips and thighs. Loose quick easy working arm at a 3/4 slot. Fluid delivery. Very good arm speed. Ball jumps out of his hand. Has some deception. Hides ball in back. Lands across his body but gets good extension out front consistently. Repeats delivery. Commands the FB. Throws breaking ball for strike. FB has some late run and sink at 90-94 mph. CV is a downer with depth at 77-79 mph. A swing and miss pitch. 2 plus ML pitches with a lot of upside. Will throw even harder. Has a chance to be a high 2016 draft.

6/26/14 - A rising junior, Bergner is one of the top underclassmen in the country and likely already has some big college programs knocking on his door. He jumps out immediately with his long, athletic frame at 6-foot-3, 170 pounds. Everything he does looks easy. He has loose actions in the field and an easy delivery on the mound. At the plate, he has a tall, relaxed set-up and solid bat speed. On the mound, he can sit in the 90-92 range with projectable secondary stuff. He had a big week at the Tournament of Stars, going 4-for-7 at the plate with a double and no strikeouts while allowing just two hits in three innings over three appearances. He struck out one batter.

5/16/18 - Scouting is challenging, especially when a prospect's performance significantly differs from one game to the next. However, when you see the same guy perform the same way twice, theprospect puts the scouting puzzle together for you. My second look this season at Bergner was almost exactly the same as the first look. His 91-94 mph fastball played light again and was squared up throughout. Instead of his breaking pitch, this time his changeup was his best pitch. He labored through five and two-thirds innings, allowing nine hits and five runs. Remains a marginal prospect for me and a 6th-to-8th round pick, which likely won’t be enough to buy him out of UNC as a sophomore-eligible prospect. (Seifert)

3/14/18 - 6’4/200, Sophomore, RHP – Athletic, slender bodied RHP with a quick arm. Poor arm action; plunges out of glove with short path back up to a slot. Rushes through his delivery, lands across body and strides short. Red flag delivery. Fastball 92-94 mph in the first inning, mostly pitched at 90-92 thereafter other than reaching back for 94 a few times with two strikes. Overall, the fastball played light due to the lack of extension and the resulting below average finish to the pitch. Best secondary pitch was, at times, an average CB at 74-78 mph. Also mixed in an 83-85 mph CH to left-handed hitters. Held his velocity throughout his 4.1 IP, but lost command in the fifth. Profiles as a middle reliever and a 4-6th round pick. However, as a 2018 sophomore eligible prospect he has leverage with two years of college remaining and his signability will largely determine where he is selected. (Seifert)
