Stocky strong build RHP, only 2023 grad at the event, with a commitment to University of Pacific, seemed to understand his abilities and use them to create smart pitching sequences to hitters.
Delivery: With hands out in front, and a pivot move to get his delivery started, takes a pause to gather himself and can see the balance and stable lower half. Keeping his hands in a low position for deception from his leg kick. With a quick break of hands, gets his arm up in a short arm action. Quick arm, and moves down the mound well.
FB: A firm/crisp fastball, topped at 86 mph, it gets on hitters quick. Good extension through the catcher, was able to use the fastball early and location was down.
CB: With 12/6 break, the curveball gets depth and can be thrown over for a strike or in the dirt for a swing and miss.
SL: A very slippery pitch, which is similar to the curveball with less downward action. Was able to use it against both right and left handed hitters. Showed well and was able to use both offspeed offerings for strikes.
CH: A solid power change with velocity at 79-80 mph, was able to use this pitch versus left handed hitters. Created late action in the zone.
Summary: With the ability to throw all four pitches for a strike in all counts, showed confidence to throw each of them to any hitters. He was also able to field his position well, back up bases and work with catcher to get hitters out consistently in this look. When trusting his stuff and attacking, the stuff was plenty good.
Positional Profile: RHP
Body: 6-0, 165-pounds. No change from recent viewing; Athletically built with some muscular development in upper leg/hips, rangy upper body proportions.
Delivery: Smooth in gathering over rubber, sinks into backside, long cross body stride w/square landing, falls off to 1st base side..
Arm Action: RH. Calm out of glove, hides behind back hip, controls arm swing, repeatable, quick acceleration, overhand release, fairly shallow backside depth.
FB: T85, 83-85 mph. Pounded bottom of zone, creates angle w/length through zone, extension allows velocity to play up, minimal lateral movement.
CB: 71-73 mph. Tight wide breaker, presents a bit like a bigger slider, throws aggressively.
SL: 71-73 mph. Very similar to CB in all respects w/slightly less lateral action, was able to reach max spin of 2455 w/SL while showing more feel for zone.
CH: 79-80 mph. Power change-up thrown w/intent for swing/miss, presents similar to BP FB w/slightly more movement.
Positional Profile: RHP - One of top 2023 RHP in Northern CA.
Body: 6-0, 165-pounds. Athletically built with some muscular development in upper leg/hips, rangy upper body proportions.
Delivery: Compact delivery, simple hip turn over rubber, knee lift just above waist, keeps hands just off mid-section, long stride, powerful hip rotation, falls off to 1B at finish.
Arm Action: RH. Loose and fast arm, clean backside, maintains control of arm swing, high-3/4 slot.
FB: T86, 84-85 mph. Quick lively FB, rides through zone while keeping on plane, modest movement but it's late, release height will allow it to play up in zone and get swings/misses.
CB: 70-72 mph. Sharp biting CB with swing/miss action, two plane break, tight w/plus spin for HS level, projects as a plus breaking ball beyond HS.
CH: 73-75 mph. Late depth with considerable spin off the FB look, outstanding extension/finish, feel for zone, potentially a third plus pitch.
Defense: Solid overall, first step actions stood out, showed well in competitive simulation with backhand play and strong throw to first, can stay at SS.
Arm: RH. INF - 82 mph. Arm is above-average for class, 82 mph across the diamond and 85 mph off the mound, arm to watch.
Hit: RHH. Tall open stance, hands high and elbow back, bat to ball approach, lacking elite metrics, bat speed of 65.2 mph is average. TrackMan line drive averages; 79.6 mph - 16.5 launch angle - 186.8 ft.
Power: 86 mph exit velocity from the tee.
Run: 7.48 runner in the 60.
Delivery: Relatively clean overall, good balance, lower half drive, clean follow through.
Arm Action: RH. Arm action stays close to the body, longer arm swing to high 3/4 arm slot, quality extension in front.
FB: T85, 82-84 mph. 82% of pitches thrown, induced vertical break 17.8 (extreme ride) and horizontal break 4.1 (21st percentile) show extreme ride and low run. Ride on his fastball garnered some swing and misses and pop-outs in the competitive simulation portion.
SL: 69-71 mph. 10% of pitches thrown, induced vertical break -6.9 (7th percentile) and horizontal break -10.8 (50th percentile) show sink and cut. Developing well as an out pitch from his 8:00 tilt.
CH: 74-75 mph. Released from the same slot as fastball, sinks and fades with parachute like action, should be utilized more.
NCA Top Prospect ID - Lean, projectable and athletically long build; young body that has good strength currently (7.60 60-yd). Tall, open stance with high hands and high back elbow; gradual hand load with extended stride. Barrel has clean turn getting on plane and working on upward path through the zone; when on time the swing has the ability to drive through the middle and into the pullside of the field (77 EV). Solid first step actions at shortstop position showing ability to make plays with fair range; arm is an asset with quickness and strength keeping throws online with life (78 MPH).
FB 76-78, CB 66-69, CHG 72-74
Hands go down to waist keeping the hands tight to the belt through high front knee coiling around the firm back leg; rides the back leg well showing advanced understanding of frame. Front leg can over-rotate, but with added strength will be more firm. Arm stays tight to the body through a longer swing getting to H-3/4 quickly and smoothly; allows arm to get extension out front. FB was straight being able to move to both sides of the plate flashing life at the plate; should continue to improve. SLD short, late action staying firm through break; when he gets the hand out with extension shows more consistent break off plate. CHG solid pitch with late bottom off a FB line; sells the pitch very well keeping similar armspeed and throwing at bottom of the zone. Very projectable incoming Freshman with the frame and stuff to keep making jumps.
NCA Underclass ID (MIF) - Medium frame with high waist and long legs. Quick out of start with good first steps; run times should come down as he matures/strengthens (7.60 60 yd). Narrow, slightly opened and tall stance keeping hands at back shoulder with high back elbow. Hands pull knob down and back into shoulder as he gains ground with simple foot stride; quick trigger from a strong hitting position. Barrel flashed quick and level with compact swing that allows him to maximize his full usage of the backside. Stayed to the RCF gap and middle of the field with line drives; as he adds strength ball will come off the bat with more EV and carry (78 EV). Agile feet able to stay in the middle of the infield; able to push the range and use his hips to create good angles to the baseball. Smooth actions with the glove and transition to throwing arm; can continue to work on body control as there are times he gets his chest too far over his feet. Quick arm with high release that has growing strength (73 MPH) and kept balls on the bag. Youngest player and showed very good fundamentals and ability to compete with players up to two-years older than him. Very impressive incoming Freshman that has a chance to make jumps quickly with strength and maturity.
NCA UCID (RHP) - Medium frame with high waist and long legs. Hands stay tight to waist with simple side step before very high front knee; slight back turn with good posture and strength in tall back leg. Controls the front side with some drive off back leg with bit of crossfire in landing; chance for more drive as he grows and matures. Spins off the mound and body gets over front leg early; can continue to improve brace leg to improve consistency and repeatability. Arm is 3/4 release, compact, quick and online working best when he controls the arm swing with average circle; times where he stabs out of the glove to 2nd and makes arm late for body. FB 74-75 T76 with bouts of cut; comes out more cleanly when in control of swing. CB 65-66 slurvy shape with late break; works out front with control of the baseball. CHG 66-68 showing some bottom; projectable pitch with chance for jump. Lots to like for player who was the youngest one out there
