Fabian

Cape Cod: Struggled offensively as a freshman at Florida in 2022, hitting .217 in 143 at-bats, then spent his sophomore campaign as a utilityman before deciding to transfer to Auburn. The younger brother of former Gators star Jud Fabian, Deric is a decent defender at shortstop despite a lack of standout tools — his arm is average, and his hands and range should play at the position in college but might not at the next level. Fabian took a big step forward with the bat this summer, hitting .352 with five homers in 91 at-bats, showing the ability to make hard line drive contact to the back side from the right side. With an open, balanced setup, Fabian has some whip in his swing but also some length. He’s a long strider with average speed underway.

Cape Cod: Lanky-bodied and highly athletic, infielder Fabian (2024/Florida) is a plus runner and possesses good baseball instincts similar to his brother, Jud. The younger Fabian also showed a similar swing path to his brother's as well as the same propensity for strikeouts with a 32% rate this summer.

Positional Profile: SS, Florida
Body: 6-foot-3, 185-pounds. Has a long, tall, lanky, athletic frame.
Defense: Fields off center of body, with a two handed gather, showing soft hands, with a clean exchange and fluid footwork. Plays through baseball out front. 
Arm: RH. INF - 84 mph. Has a long, high 3/4 arm slot.
Hit: RHH. Starts with a slightly open athletic setup, knee bend/heel up toe down lift with a short stride, hands loading back and down. Swings a long, uphill bat path, stays inside baseball. 
Power: 89 mph exit velocity from the tee. Above average bat speed, up the middle approach.
Run: 6.96 runner in the 60. Runs with long, strong strides. 

After struggling in his first two at-bats of the day, Fabian seemed to find his rhythm in his third at-bat, lacing a double down the third base line. Fabian followed that up with a 3-3 performance in Game 2. Fabian continues to show an advanced hit tool and above average athleticism. Fabian has a good feel for the barrel and shows the ability to spray the ball to all fields. Florida recruit.

Lanky middle infielder who still has a lot of growing and filling out to do. Moves well in the middle and the hands and actions work. The swing works and will continue to improve with added strength.  

Displayed confidence in the box, good hands, and used all of the field during batting practice with several line drives.
