Cape Cod: Pitelli's defense made him Miami's everyday starter at shortstop for the last two years, and he did make some offensive progress from his freshman year (.219/.289/.320) to his sophomore campaign (.249/.335/.403, 8 HR). He also held his own this summer on the Cape, hitting .252 with three homers and five doubles in 119 at-bats. Pitelli strikes out more than ideal for a smaller-framed, defense-first player, but he does offer some sneaky lefthanded pop, and we saw a mostly pull-oriented approach. But Pitelli's calling card is plus or better arm at short, along with a very quick transfer and release when he needs it. He can get careless with his throws when he has more time to work with, but his internal clock works well on challenging plays when he needs to hurry, and he shows the quick feet and range to stay at shortstop. The key to Pitelli's draft stock will be how his bat continues to develop.
3/21/18
The lanky left handed hitter has some present hit ability with a lot of projection. There is some length and will need to get stronger. Was 1-3 with a triple, two strikeouts and a walk. Shows ability to turn the barrel and create leverage in the swing. Will be a high follow going forward.
