04/25/18- LSU recruit. Kelly, who appears leaner and stronger, would mostly 90-93 touching 94 mph. The fastball generated eight swing and misses and shows present late, riding life. Kelly would show a much improved, plus sider on the night as well. The slider worked 82-84 mph and had downer, two-plane action and was a swing and miss pitch. Kelly also worked an overhand curveball at 76-78 mph with tight spin and depth at times. Kelly would finish with eigh strikeouts over six innings, while allowing no runs on one hit while walking a pair. Kelly has some drop and drive in the delivery and uses the lower half well. Uses an up-tempo delivery and attacks hitters, there is some effort, but the arm is quick and the improved slider give him two plus pitches with the fastball/slider combo.
03/27/18- LSU recruit. Strong, athletic frame throwing out if the high ¾ slot. Featured a fastball that mostly sat 91-93 throughout the game, touching 96 early and touching 94 multiple times later on. Also displayed a hard slider with depth that he threw for strikes at 82-83 mph. Also frequently mixed in a changeup at 80-81 mph. Pitched with confidence and worked with a quicker pace. Once Kelly got in a groove, he seemed to get stronger as the game went on. Kelly was able to hold his velocity all throughout the game and will continue to a be a strong follow as we approach the draft.
10/15/17- Louisiana State recruit. Has a strong, lean frame. Works up tempo and from a hgh 3/4 slot. The fastball ranged from 88-90 mph with some life down in the zone. While he did not have his best fastball, he showed his ability to pitch. He pitched off of an above average, hard slider at 80-81 mph. Consistently kept hitters off balance and struck out four. The fastball velocity has been better and will expect to see better in the spring, but shows the ability to pitch and win games at the next level.
5/21/16- Louisiana State recruit, currently ranked No. 5 in Florida’s 2018 class, No. 8 overall. Physically mature 6-foot-3, 207-pound frame, muscular build, defined lower half, advanced for age. One of the top power arms in the 2018 class. Works from high-3/4 slot, compact delivery, lands slightly open. Was up to 93 in the spring, though his fastball sat at 88 mph at ProCase. Fastball action mostly straight; two-seamer flashed occasional run and sink when synched up. Inconsistent action on curveball, tendency to cast out, early break in the 73-75 range.
4/1/16 (IMG Classic)- 6-foot-3, 210 pound LSU recruit with a strong, projectable, durable frame throwing out of the high ¾ arm slot. Higher leg kick with a repeatable delivery. Lands on line. Fastball mostly sat 87-89 mph with some life, did touch 92 twice and 93 once. Didn’t have the command on his fastball as much as we’ve seen of late but still found a way to turn in a strong outing by mixing in his off-speed pitches well. His curveball sat 73-75 mph with a 12/6 break with good depth and spin that he threw for strikes and used on his way to nine strikeouts on the day. Kelly also showed a good feel for his changeup with sinking action and good arm speed that sat 77-78 mph. Gathers himself well. Athlete that competes and attacks hitters by working quickly with good poise.
2/26/16- Louisiana State commit who stands at 6-foot-3, 195 pounds with a strong, athletic, and projectable body. He has a quick, repeatable delivery and he stays in line. He uses his lower half well, has an over the top arm action and has a good downward plane on his fastball. He sat 87-91 and touched 92-93 mph against TNXL. Showed a sharp slider with late break at 79-81 mph, above average curveball with depth at 75-77 mph, and a 77-79 mph changeup that he keeps the same arm speed as his fastball. His changeup is very deceptive. 4 IP, 0 hits, runs, 5 Ks against TNXL.
8/8/15 - Transferred from Nitro HS in West Virginia to IMG Academy in Florida.
3/20/15 Kelly drew coaches from the ACC, SEC, Big South and Atlantic Sun conferences to see him make his first varsity start and were not disappointed. The 6-foot-3, 190-pound righty showed above average tilt to his fastball that sat 85-87. The freshman topped at 90 mph and touched 89 mph as late as his final inning (6th). Kelly's 74 mph curveball showed advanced bite with solid arm speed leading to a handful of his 12 strikeouts. Kelly has shown a capable changeup but did not utilize it on this day.
12/14/15 Kelly showed the potential to be one of the top recruits in the nation in the Class of 2018. The 6-foot-3, 190-pound righty sat 85-87 while topping at 89 mph. He has a loose arm with tremendous tilt to his fastball. His 4-seamer displayed heavy cut action while his 2-seamer has arm-side run. Kelly also displayed a feel for his changeup at 78-80 and a 75 mph curveball. The breaking ball has 11/5 shape and sharp, late action that gives Kelly two college ready pitches prior to throwing his first pitch in high school.
