2022 MLB Draft: The burly-built left-hander shows four pitches, working down in the zone with an 89-92 mph fastball. He can also repeat a roundhouse curve that shows good shape and speed at 75-76 mph, while also driving a low-80s plus slider down in the zone. With fastball arm speed his fourth pitch is an average changeup that he turns over in the 80-83 mph range. Messick is also a fearless bulldog on the mound and features a deceptive drop-n-drive delivery that only allows a late look by the hitter and produces good angle to the plate. Due to his mature build and likely maxed stuff his draft ceiling isn't that of his teammate Hubbart, but Messick should hear his name called around the third round after a dominant college season in which he struck out 140, while walking only 16 in 93.2 IP.

Featured a drop-n-drive delivery and pounded the zone with a 88-89 mph fastball. The burly built (6-foot, 235 pounds) Messick repeated a 75-77 mph curveball that he kept down in the zone, while mixing in an occasional low-80s changeup and flashed one 78 mph cutter.
Stands at 6-foot, 205 pounds with a strong, solid frame. The left handed hitter has a very quick, unorthodox leg kick and load, but does a good job of keeping the hands back and the head quiet. Hands and bat get through the zone in a hurry and the bat path is good. Looks to drive balls into the alleys, swings with intent. Registered an 87 mph exit velocity. Strong arm from first, throws a little erratic at times. Moved well for size running a 7.06 second 60 yard dash time.
