2/17/24
One of the standout two-way talents in the 2024 class, Hernandez showed explosive tools on both sides of the ball. At the plate, the Georgia Tech shows good length through the zone with an uphill bat path geared for loft and present bat speed. Generated some of the highest exit velocities of the weekend, including a 107 MPH rocket to the pull-side. Hernandez shows real poise with stuff to match on the mound as well. Working from a high three-quarters slot, the RHP shows present arm speed and great ability to drive through a strong lead leg block. Fastball lived 90-92 with late life and some run that was tough to pick up when elevated. Mid-70s curveball holds tight, short break with some depth and command in-zone. Firm changeup looks like a future put-away pitch at 85-87 with hard arm-side fade and looks unhittable to left-handed bats. Hernandez should continue to show well this spring and will garner more and more draft buzz as we move towards the summer.
3/18/23

6-foot-2 190-pounds. Georgia Tech commit. Hernandez is having a monster year both at the plate and on the mound. A true 2 way candidate for the next couple of years. The frame could blend in at the next level right now. The swing produces consistent hard line drives that can be tough to handle when hit right at guys. He lets his hands do the work, and trusts his strong lower half to do all the work. The load is quiet and compact and has some serious raw power. We look forward to seeing Hernandez on the mound this spring to see the 90+mph fastball at work.

2/22/23

Georgia Tech Commit. 6-foot-2, 190 pounds. This arm just continues to impress us with his consistency each look we get. We love the steep trajectory his FB comes in on, making his 77-78 hammer play up even better. He drives the ball downhill better than most in the class, and HS hitters rarely get a clean barrel before being wiped out by the CB. We haven’t yet seen the 91-92’s that are being widely reported on Hernandez, but we know its in there. He couldn’t have pitched in worse weather, as his night outing was when the temperature took another dive and the wind increased quickly. His CB stays on FB plane much longer than most, and still gets a ridiculous amount of depth. This is the best we’ve seen him throw the low 80’s CH, as LHH had absolutely no shot at it. The lower slot on the pitch is a tell to more advanced hitters, so he will need to raise that slot to match his FB/CB eventually. Nevertheless, his feel for it is advanced.

2/21/23

Georgia Tech Commit. 6-foot-2, 190 pounds. This elite two way showed how consistent his bat is in Week 1 of GDC, with two multi hit games. To our knowledge, every single AB he took was a QAB. He rarely needs to stray from his right center approach because his hands stay inside the ball so well with a quick, knob led path. He sees spin very well, and works consistently advantageous counts. Hernandez is as locked in as they come at the plate. We would like to see him show more pull side power in game, and know he has the swing to do it.
