2022 MLB Draft: At 6-foot, 190 pounds, Thomas is one of the better athletes in the 2022 college draft class. He runs and throws above average, but it's his plus raw power that excites scouts the most. Despite going down with a shoulder injury in May that required surgery, the right-handed slugger pounded 14 doubles and 17 home runs for a .734 SLG. He has shown some swing/miss vs right-handed spin in the past, but he controlled the zone with 34 walks vs 32 strikeouts this spring. Defensively, he covers ground in the outfield with good quickness and instincts, profiling best to right field in pro ball. Drafted in the 37th round out of high school in 2019, Thomas is likely to be selected early on Day Two this time around.
Cape Cod- Good athlete who showed a sound swing and the ability to hit for some power with four home runs and 11 XBH in 91 at-bats. Despite his strong swing mechanics, his bat-to-ball has been inconsistent this summer (.220 average) due to below average plate discipline. The right handed hitter also ran above average down the line, clocking in the low 4.20s. In the outfield he showed an average glove with fringe arm strength.
Athletic looking outfielder from Valdosta, GA is strong below the elbows with fast hands and some finish to his swing. He hits out of a pull approach and looks to do damage. Has an idea of what his zone is but will expand east and west at times. Defensively he profiles as a solid corner OF. I see success on the next level for this 2019 and has a chance to grow into significant power down the road. This is a sleeper in the 2019 that is still on the board.
