4/04/22

Uncommitted. 6 foot 2, 215 pounds, Large frame w/ tree trunk legs & natural athleticism. Went right at hitters early + often w/ live running FB 88-90 T91 and plenty of swing & miss. Commands it when he controls his body, but always has consistent life. 78-80 SL was sharp w/ nice shape & late action. Stayed down thru delivery very well + controlled game pace. Would like to get to see him again as he’s still building up from minor lower back injury.

6/10/21

Lonergan continues to excel as one of the most polished arms in the ‘23 class, and comfortably worked 87-89 at the NPI in an exciting matchup of two high-level, uncommitted pitchers. His athletic, 6-foot-2, 208-pound frame sports some natural strength throughout, and he exhibits and impressive ability to repeat a simple delivery and find a consistent near ¾ slot while working linear down the mound with excellent posture. The fastball features some boring action, and he flashes the ability to sink balls under bats with minimal effort and plenty more velocity in the tank. Most intriguing, Lonergan has present confidence in throwing a sharper 78-79 slurve in any count with tighter spin present, and aptitude to continue taking the pitch to higher levels. Controlling the tempo of the game at all times, Lonergan is a low-pulse pitcher whose makeup increases the tools, and given the present pitchability, he has the upside to make massive jumps in the future.

3/08/21

6-foot-2, 208-pound right-handed pitcher, wide shoulders, strong, physical frame. One of the top dual sport (baseball and football) athletes in the country, rated highly as a pitcher and quarterback. Has a calm, collected demeanor on the mound. Works with little effort throughout delivery, ball jumps out of hand. Fastball sat 88-90, touched 90, armside run, did a nice job of keeping the pitch up in the zone, created a lot of foul balls with. Slider, 78-81, sharp downer action, swing and miss pitch. Pitch really became effective later in the game when Lonergan started to loosen up. Effectively played his slider off his fastball. Would throw up in the zone consistently and then come back with a slider low and away, creating swing and misses more times than not. Final line: 6.0 IP, 3 H. 0 R, 11 K, 1 BB.

4/30/19

6-foot-1, 180-pound right-handed pitcher with a stronger lower half. Possesses premium arm strength with little effort. Topped out at a tournament-best 87 mph, pitched at 83-85. Works out of the stretch only. Clean, full arm path coming through a high-3/4 slot; loose and athletic out front. Ball comes out of the hand super-easy. Repeats delivery well for age, slightly closed landing. Fastball played mostly true; still developing strike zone consistency. Toggled the shape of his breaking ball, ranging between 74-77 mph. When thrown harder it flashed signs of being a wipeout offering in the future. Also mixed in a 78-79 mph changeup occasionally. Results didn’t match pure stuff on this look, but with the ease at which he generates premium velocity at his age, Lonergan should continue to develop as a high-level power arm in the future.
