Hankins

3/26/18 - In just his second start back in a little over a month, Hankins struck out eight of the nine batters he faced and did it without breaking a sweat.  His fastball touched 94 early and settled in at 90-92, showing the same angle and heavy sink as he always has.  He gets excellent extension out front and the ball does not stick to his fingers.  He mixed in breaking balls (71-73) when he needed, but dominated mostly with his fastball.

8/24/17 - Named to Team USA 18U team.

8/7/17 - Great matchup as SS Brice Turang (Santiago HS, CA) led off for the Brewers. Hankins fired 96 mph fastballs to Turang and struck him out on five pitches. Worked at a breakneck pace, barely giving hitters time to get set before he started his windup. He lived in the 92-94 range for most of the three innings he logged and ranged from 91-96 overall. His fastball is lively with arm-side run and he shows off his athleticism by keeping his long frame under control, throwing strikes and showing the ability to vary his delivering, routinely quick-pitching batters. The knock against Hankins is his breaking ball. The slider is loose with big break and currently operates as a below-average offering. He pitches from a 3/4 slot, which can make it tough to stay on top of pitches and create spin, but there is no arguing against his electric fastball. Turang and Hankins faced off one more time and Turang walked on four pitches. While Hankins is able to throw a high percentage of strikes, he does tend to miss arm side when he rushes through his delivery. Hankins pitched three innings and allowed three walks and a single while striking out five.

7/29/17 - Easy 94-97 with a loose slider at 76-78 and changeup at 87. He allowed two baserunners in the top of the first, but worked around it with a double play.

7/10/17 - Named to Team USA 18U trials roster.

6/28/17 - Long, lanky and athletic 6-foot-6, 210-pound Vanderbilt recruit. Hankins came out of the gates hot, sitting 93-95 mph, touching 96, in the first two innings. He settled in at 92-94 while pounding the strike zone at a 70-percent clip. He also mixed in a 73-76 mph slider and 83-84 mph changeup. Arm is highly athletic, loose and easy, and despite his size, he repeats his simple side-step delivery with ease. Hankins ultimately threw three hitless innings with four strikeouts and no walks. He set the tone for the Brave squad, as four pitchers combined to one-hit United.

8/2/16 - Also a Vanderbilt recruit, he was 89-93 with an easy, loose delivery from a simplified windup. His fastball had arm-side life and induced weak contact. He also mixed in a 71-74 curveball and allowed a hit and walk in three innings while striking out four.

7/2016 - At 6-foot-5, 198 pounds, the Vanderbilt recruit features an extremely long and lanky frame with plenty of projection - which is pretty scary because you don’t need to dream on his current stuff. While Hankins only threw one inning, which wasn’t the cleanest, he flashed a fastball that topped at 94 mph, sitting 92-93 out of the windup, 90-92 from the stretch. He has a short, highly athletic arm action from a high-3/4 slot, working free and easily, creating a severe downhill plane. If he threw something other than a fastball, I missed it.
