The 6-foot-2, 225-pound right-hander came out of the gates with the intent of establishing his fastball from the first pitch. He did so in the 93-95 mph range, but it was at the expense of hitting barrels and allowing a four-run first inning. Settling into a groove after throwing more of his secondary offerings, Barnett put up zeroes in the second through fifth innings before allowing one run in the sixth and exiting the game after 84 pitches. With a long and loose arm action and a lower effort delivery, Barnett showed below average life on his fastball, but touched 96 on a couple of occasions. He also mixed in three developing offspeed pitches in a 84-88 mph changeup, an 81-82 slider and a 73-75 mph curveball. He allowed six hits and five runs in his 5.1 IP, while punching out eight and walking no one.
