2017 Area Code Games- RHP Ian Bedell (Davenport Cental HS, IA) started for the White Sox (Midwest) against the Athletics and allowed a hit and two walks in three innings while striking out two. He was up to 93, sitting 89-92. He pitches with a loose delivery and high leg kick. His curveball had depth and 11/5 shape at 73-76 though he tended to cast the pitch.

8/4/15-
6-foot-2, 170-pound right-handed pitcher. Good balance and tempo in delivery. Works quickly. Incorporates lower half well in mechanics creating drive and power. Fastball is downhill at 82-85 mph with solid command of zone. Slider is best breaking ball at 71-74 mph with tight rotation. Changeup has plus sinking action and is thrown at fastball arm speed. One of best 2018 arms in state. Will be highly ranked in IA 2018 class.

Eastern Iowa I.D. 3/1/15
6-foot-2, 158-pound 2-way player. Fastball has life with slight sinking action in zone for strikes at 79-81 mph. Curveball showed loose spin at 65-67 mph. Slider had 11/5 shape and short break; similar to a cutter at 70-73 mph. Changeup had sink. Loose actions and athleticism. High Follow for 2018 class. Tall stance with in-line stride and short load. Showed average pop in the bat with a gap to gap approach. Shows ability to pull hands inside pitches middle-in. 82 mph exit velocity off tee. Moves well in outfield. Shows athleticism. Arm is long and clean with plus accuracy and carry. 81 mph arm strength from outfield.

Quad City Open 12/14/14
6-foot-2, 155-pound 2-way player. Tall lanky athlete with a 7.34 60 time. Slightly open stance with tall set-up. Tall to fall hitting mechanics with good weight transition through contact. Swing plane is appropriate creating backspin after contact with hard line drives. Pull approach. Shows ability in outfield. Confident fielder with loose high ¾ arm action. Throws have carry and are accurate at 78 mph. Projectable frame on mound. Arm works from from high ¾ arm slot. Compact delivery with ability to repeat mechanics. Fastball was 75-81 mph. Curveball had 12/6 shape with gradual break. High Follow for 2018 class.

2020 DRAFT:Bedell, a 6-foot-2, 200-pound right-handed pitcher works from the third base side of the rubber with a quick, compact delivery and quick arm swing to a near 3/4 slot. He's a strike-thrower who sits 91-92 mph and touches 93 early in the game, before settling in around 89-90 mph. Also mixes in a trio of offspeed pitches. His slider was in the low-80's with more sweeping, lateral movement than the curveball. His curveball flashed 12/6 action with good downward movement in the upper-70s. He showed good ability of getting swings and misses with both breaking balls and being able to land them in the zone when needed. His changeup was 82-84 mph, flashing late fading action with the ability to miss left-handed bats and get weak contact. After graduating early from an Iowa high school to attend Missouri in January of 2018, Bedell is still just 20 years old. He will enter the 2020 draft as one of the younger college arms, and, as a result, some increased draft leverage. It would not be a surprise if Bedell returned to Columbia for another year.

9/23/19:Mizzou will be led this season by a trio of arms and an athletic backstop, all of whom have the potential to be selected in the Top 10 rounds this June. The most likely top pick among the foursome will be RHPIan Bedell. After dominating the Cape Cod League this past summer (4-0, 0.58 ERA, 30.2 IP, 17 H, 3 BB, 36 SO), Bedell featured a 91-93 mph sinking fastball, a near average curveball and a solid average-to-plus changeup on this most recent look. Some of the 79-82 mph curveballs were better than others with the pitch showing good shape and fair action at the plate. It played slightly below average overall. His fastball showed consistent sink, but the pitch cannot be considered a heavy, dominant sinker at this point. His best pitch on this day was a consistent, above average-to-plus changeup thrown with good arm speed and showing plus action. After being used mainly as a reliever his first two seasons, Bedell will likely be the Tigers No. 1 weekend starter this spring. With continued strong performance and stuff, he is likely to be selected late during Day One to early Day Two.

8/21/19:After pitching nearly exclusively of the bullpen during both his freshman and sophomore seasons, Bedell will be looked upon to anchor the rotation for the Tigers next spring. He’s on pace to do just that after starting and succeeding (6 GS, 4-0, 0.58 ERA, 30.2 IP, 17 H, 3 BB, 36 SO) this summer. At 6-foot-2, 205 pounds Bedell is athletic and his arm is long and loose. His delivery is smooth and clean. He lands cross body, yet soft with a still and level head. He works quick and shows good poise on the bump. He has feel for four pitches from a three-quarter slot, is very efficient and able to throw any pitch in any count for a strike. During a brief, rain-shortened start, his two main pitches were an 89-93 mph fastball and a 81-84 mph changeup. His fastball had below average life and was barrelled a couple times by the top of the Falmouth lineup. The change was thrown with fastball arm speed showing slight fade. It played near average. He also mixed in a 78-81 curveball and two cutters at 86-87. He was on the side of his curveball causing it to break long, early and sweep. Hitters identified it early and it was a below average pitch on this look. However, he had feel to spin and it’s likely a much better pitch than he showed during this 21 pitch outing. More than likely he would have found his release point for the pitch as the game progressed. He also showed similar stuff during his one inning All-Star Game start: 90-94 fastball with arm side life, fringe curveball at 81 mph and above average 82-84 mph changeup. After graduating early from an Iowa high school to attend Missouri, Bedell is still just 19 years old. He will enter the 2020 draft as one of the younger college arms and has Day One potential.
