6.13.17 - Drafted in the 9th round out of Michigan State by the Washington Nationals.

4/7/14 - Michigan State commit. Troop has been getting attention from pro scouts simply because of what his future might hold. He’s a long and lanky 6-foot-4, 195-pounds and can clearly handle more body mass. He has above average athleticism and shows the ability to repeat his delivery which will also bode well for adding future velocity. Delivery is athletic, showed he can be a hang and read lefty from the stretch, while also showing the ability to slide step. Occasionally got to his heels out of his balance position, leaving the ball up in the zone, more of a tendency to do this out of the stretch. Arm action has length from a high ¾ slot, slight wrist curl upon separation. Creates downhill angle on his fastball, pitched more vertically with fastball than horizontally, stayed mostly to his arm side half of the plate, pitched at 85-87 mph for most of his outing touching 88 mph twice. Showed excellent feel for both secondary pitches. Curveball had tight action at 75-77 mph, showed the ability to throw it for strikes as well as getting chases out of the zone, well above average depth on steep plane, showed swing and miss abilities. Changeup had advanced fading action to his arm side, feel for the zone, only threw to right handed hitters, 78-80 mph, got multiple swing and misses. Troop’s arsenal worked predominantly out of a middle arm side window showing the ability to change speeds spinning and fading the baseball, going forward Troop will need to command the glove side of the plate with his fastball more and expand the zone laterally to left handed hitters.
5/1/13 - Currently ranked No. 76 in the state of Illinois, Troop is a 6-foot-4, 180 pound, long-legged outfielder that showed athletic actions.  Troop went 2-for-3 on the day with a double.  Has an easy, smooth left-handed swing, stays through the zone well. Showed off athleticism with a diving play in centerfield.  Pregame showed arm strength.

10/21/12 - Troop is a very projectable athlete at 6-foot-4, 178-pounds he has the frame to add significant growth. Troop is a talented athlete that could project as a legitimate two-way player. On the mound, Troop worked out of a balanced delivery throwing from a high ¾ arm slot, with long loose actions. His fastball registered at 80-83 mph featuring some run with a solid feel for the pitch. His change up also showed above average feel thrown with deceptive arm action producing hard arm side run in the zone at 72-75 mph. Defensively, Troop showed solid footwork around the bag coupled with soft hands. At the plate, he hits from a tall open stance showing bat speed while working gap to gap.

Troop is a promising two-way talent who possesses all the skills to be an elite player in his class. Offensively, the left-handed hitting first baseman showcased an explosive lower half and impressive bat speed through the zone. Troop displayed some pull-side power and barrel whip through the zone. Defensively, around the bag he showed advanced footwork and soft hands. On the mound, the lean 6-foot-2, 165-pound left-hander sat at 78-79 mph while operating from a high-¾ slot. He showed a feel for his changeup and curveball flashed tight break. His arm works with fluidity and ease, which leads us to believe he will see his velocity climb in the coming years.
