2/19/12 Verbally committed to Indiana University, Gibbs is an elite catching prospect. The physically impressive 6-foot-2, 215-pounder has incredibly strong legs and arm strength: He was clocked at 84 mph from the crouch. His arm strength and advanced footwork added up to a top pop time of 1.91. Furthermore, Gibbs consistently was on the bag with his throws and receives with a firm wrist and soft hands. At the plate, Gibbs has a balanced setup and a strong lower half that he used to get good rotation on his swing. He consistently barrels up the baseball and showed power potential to all fields.
The best catching prospect in the class, Gibbs turned in a stellar sophomore campaign in which he batted .494 with 5 homers, 9 doubles and 41 RBI. Gibbs is a 6-foot, 195-pound physically advanced catcher who showed all the tools to become one of the most coveted Class of 2013 prospects in the Midwest. Unknown prior to the event, Gibbs definitely made a big name for himself, as he showed plus arm strength and overall receiving abilities. Gibbs had impressive arm strength (83 mph from the crouch), as he fired pop times of 1.97 and 1.98, all on the bag and with little effort. In bullpens, he demonstrated advanced catching abilities, showing quick feet, soft hands and a firm wrist. Gibbs was equally impressive at the plate. He has an easy and athletic right-handed swing with big power potential. Gibbs allows the ball to travel deep in the zone, and he uses his quick hands and strength to hammer the ball to all fields.
