Arizona commit. Ranked No. 16 in the state, No. 475 overall. Batted sixth and was the DH throughout the game. 5-foot-10, 189-pound frame with clear strength and athleticism throughout. A right-handed hitter, Freitas has a simple swing that creates easy power; bat path stayed mostly flat through the zone. Blasted a ball off the left field wall for a two-RBI double. High-level arm in Illinois that showed well at the plate.

Last season, RHP/INF Cody Freitas (2025; Arizona commit) led the Boilermakers in innings pitched (41) and strikeouts (51), and he finished the season with a 3.76 ERA while holding his opponents to a .248 batting average. Our scouts have seen Freitas up to 92 mph with a tight-breaking curveball that he can throw for strikes. At the plate, he’s shown the ability to hit for power in our looks, producing low-90s exit velocities on average, and a peak exit velocity of 98.5 mph. We expect Freitas to take on an expanded role in 2024 for this Boilermakers’ team.

Illinois State commit. Currently ranked No. 11 in the state’s 2025 class. Athletic build with some strength in his lower-half, listed at 6-foot, 180-pounds. Started on the mound and was impressive despite receiving the loss, firing six innings with three hits, one earned run, four walks and five strikeouts. The right-hander attacked primarily with his fastball early on, sitting in the 89-90 mph range and topping out at 91 mph with ride and run through the zone at times, holding velocity well and still touching 90 mph in the fifth inning. As his outing went on, he started going to a tight 11/5 curveball with gradual break, 72-75 mph. High-level 2025 right-hander.

Illinois State commit, currently ranked No. 9 in the Illinois’ 2025 class. 6-foot, 180-pound, well-proportioned, lively-frame, right-handed pitcher. Got the start on the mound for Bradley-Bourbonnais. Quick, upside arm action, plays fast out front and the ball jumps out of his hand. Fastball plays lively with late jump and ride, especially up in the zone and early on in the outing, sat 90-91 mph, T92. Settled in anywhere from 85-88 mph from the fourth inning on. Went to a 73-75 mph curveball with occasional late action off an 11/5 plane as his go-to secondary offering; lands it for strikes currently. Worked with tempo and pace throughout the outing, clear competitor who attacked and challenged with his fastball throughout. Went 5.1 innings pitched, scattered eight hits, three earned runs, walked one and struck out eight.

RHP/INF Cody Freitas (Bradley-Bourbonnais, 2025; Illinois State commit) was definitely a name our staff was excited to get an updated look at and after a full offseason training, Freitas showed off the gains he has made. Now boasting a slightly thicker 6-foot, 180-pound frame, Freitas came out firing during his pen and every one of his fastball’s surpassed the 90-mph mark, with the hardest coming in at 91.5 mph. Not only was the velocity of this pitch impressive, he also created a max IVB of 21.4 inches and a spin rate of 2341 rpm. As for his offspeeds, he featured a curveball that played with a sharp and short 11/5 break that he was able to throw in the zone for strikes, and also bury it for swings-and-misses. He rounded out his three-pitch mix with low-80s changeup that averaged 14.2 inches of horizontal movement. Freitas also more than held his own as a position player, showing a strong arm across the diamond at 90 mph as well as a quiet, strong swing that resulted in a lot of hard, pull-side contact in BP.

Arm: RH. INF - 90 mph. Easy life across the diamond, backspin, high 3/4 slot.
Defense: Soft hands and fluid actions, plays through in rhythm, controls body well to both sides.
Run: 7.20 runner in the 60. 

Delivery: Deliberate delivery, drop and drive.
Arm Action: RH. Quick, continuous arm path, 3/4 slot.
FB: T92, 90-91 mph. Life through the zone with arm-side run.  T2394, 2341 average rpm.
CB: 74-78 mph. Sharp, 11/5 action, swing and miss potential. T2460, 2315 average rpm.
CH: 82-83 mph. Slows arm slightly, fade to the pitch.  T1818, 1606 average rpm.

Illinois State commit Cody Freitas (Bradley-Bourbonnias, 2025) looked like his usual self with yet another impressive pen. The 5-foot-11, 172-pound right-hander is highly athletic down the mound with a clean/quick arm. His fastball worked in the 86-87 mph range with life through the zone; also setting up a fading changeup that comes from a similar window, 80-82 mph. His third offering was a spike-curve that plays with short 11/5 shape, coming out firm with tight spin at 73-75 mph.

Hit: RHH. Balanced setup, minimal load, short stride. Long, level path. Rotational at times, middle-of-the-field approach.
Power: 86 max exit velocity, averaged 73 mph. 319’ max distance.
Arm: RH. INF - 86 mph. Short, clean arm circle into a 3/4 slot. Above average arm strength, with carry to the target.
Defense: Soft hands, clean exchange with feel on the infield.
Run: 7.52 runner in the 60.

Delivery: Tall and fall delivery, repeats while moving efficiently in-line, strong drop and drive lower half with front foot landing square.
Arm Action: RH. Short arm draw out of glove with stabbing action. Quick arm, high 3/4 slot.
FB: T86.1, 85.3-85.8 mph. Plays with carry through the zone. T2186, 1957 average rpm.
CB: 70.5-72.1 mph. 12/6 shape. T2170, 2039 average rpm.
CH: 79.6-81.0 mph. Sinking action. Maintains arm speed. T2157, 1945 average rpm.

 Defense: Hands are soft, exchange is fluid and footwork is fluid. 
 Arm: RH. INF - 80 mph. His arm is very strong.  He has a short quick arm action that is loose and delivers from a high 3/4 slot. 
 Hit: RHH. Balanced, wide base, athletic setup. Simple, loose repeatable swing. Short, quick and direct to contact. Utilized the entire field with a gap to gap approach. His swing is strong and athletic and projects.
Power: 75.00 mph exit velocity from the tee. Line drive pull hitter.  Consistently barrelled the ball to the pull side.  Very projectable swing with advanced bat speed for his age.
Run: 7.68 runner in the 60. 

Delivery: Tall and fall delivery that stays on-line and lands square.
Arm Action: RH. His arm is very strong with easy effort.  He has a long arm action and delivers from a 3/4 slot. 
FB: T83, 81-82 mph. Fastball has armside run and advanced velocity for age.
CB: 65-69 mph. 11/5 shape with gradual break.
CH: 76-77 mph. Straight change with near fastball armspeed.
