LHP Mason Orton (Mahomet-Seymour, 2025) was arguably the top southpaw in attendance. Currently ranked No. 65 in the state, the 6-foot, 158-pound Orton shows a simple, easy delivery from the left side paired with a long arm action that plays from a low ¾ slot. Orton worked a four-pitch mix, with his fastball sitting 83-84 mph, topping out at 85.7 mph flashing life and run to the arm side. Playing off his fastball was a cutter that sat 77-78 with slight horizontal movement. Orton rounded out his repertoire with a sweeping curveball and a developing changeup that had a similar profile to his fastball.
Positional Profile: LHP
Body: 6-1, 150-pounds.
Delivery: Stretch-only, uptempo, high leg lift, tall/fall delivery, toe lands slightly open.
Arm Action: LH. Long, clean arm action, 3/4 slot.
FB: T86, 83-85 mph. Natural armside run, ball jumps out of hand. T2142, 2033 average rpm.
CB: 72-74 mph. Sweeping action with shorter break. T1821, 1751 average rpm.
CH: 80-82 mph. Fade to the pitch, maintains fastball arm speed and slot. T1482, 1435 average rpm.
CUT: 77-78 mph. Horizontal movement, true cutter.
Lean, lanky 6-foot, 145-pound frame with thin levers that project. Toed the rubber in a brief look for the Bulldogs before a rain delay canceled the game. Stretch only, simple leg lift to a tall posture at balance, stays closed down the mound and lands in line to his target. Short compact arm draw, loose out front and comes out clean from a ¾ slot with arm speed. Fastball sat on the corners at 82-84 mph for strikes consistently. Ease of operation and the way his arm works suggests more velocity will come soon, especially as he continues to physically mature. Turned over a changeup at 77-78 mph with arm-side run, flashed sweep on an upper-60s breaking ball that played down in the zone. An upside and projectable southpaw to know that continues to produce for the Bulldogs this spring.
