7/25/19

Lawler was a bulldog on the bump for GRB Rays Green in the slate of quarterfinal games under the lights. Lawler has a projectable build at 6-foot-2, 170 pounds, which pairs very well with his moxie and feel for the dirt circle. He sports a clean delivery, works in-line to home and controls his finish. The arm plays a little long, looseness out front with present arm speed out of a high ¾ slot. He held runners close all game and continued to get big out after big out. Lawler’s fastball played with run and occasional tilt/sink at the bottom of the zone, elevated it when needed, ranging 83-88 mph and topping 89 mph. The breaking ball was electric generating numerous whiffs working on a 11/5 plane with late, sharp breaking action. Lawler finished with 6.1 innings of work, allowing seven hits, two unearned runs, while fanning 13 to help GRB Green defeat Central Illinois Outlaws in first-round action.

3/1/19 - Verbally committed to Iowa.

1/20/19 - De-committed from St. Louis University.

7/30/18 - St. Louis recruit. At OK Limited Series, Lawler barely broke a sweat on the mound where he remained poised, polished, and unfazed as he comfortably pounded the zone to both his arm and glove sides with a fastball that sat 83-86 with hardly any effort. The wiry-athletic right-hander has a quick arm stroke with a slight hook in the back, and is able to repeat his high ¾ slot with ease. Stepping slightly across his body, he gets some arm side life at times. His breaking ball exhibits tight spin with slurve-type, 10/4 shape at 68-71. It has a chance to be a solid pitch moving forward, but he did not feature it very often throughout the outing.

6/19/18 - St. Louis recruit. Lean, pitcher’s frame at 6-foot-2, 160-pounds with a polished delivery. His quick arm allowed him to work in the mid-eighties with his fastball during the high-heat of one of the hottest days of the early summer. He has a polished delivery, and was able to work his fastball to the bottom of the zone with more velocity likely on the way soon. He flashed a changeup at 82 mph, and while his curveball was thrown at a slower 63-65, it took good shape including tight spin and some multi-tier break. Given his his ability to replicate the delivery time after time along with a whippy arm action, Lawler should have a chance to make a big jump in the future.

2/25/18 - 6-foot-2, 165-pound right-handed pitcher, athletic live body. Delivery is dynamic and athletic, slight drop and drive, long stride to square landing, high front side. Arm action is long and loose, live athletic arm, high ¾ slot. Fastball is firm with finish, worked downhill at times, showed ability to command, sat 85-87 mph. Curveball is sharp, 12/6 action with feel and depth, throws with conviction, drops for strikes, 67-68 mph. Keeps changeup down, near fastball arm speed, 74-79 mph.

10/1/17 - Verbally committed to St. Louis.
