Denison University. Lean build, athletic 6-foot-3, 185-pounds frame, got the ball against conference opponent Libertyville. Larson struck out eight over five innings and allowed two runs on four hits. The right-handed pitcher works from the stretch only, shoulder coil closed to home with a high leg kick and lands open with an athletic finish. The arm works from a short, stabbing action, with a high 3/4 arm slot. Larson showed four pitches in warm-ups but only used three pitches. A four seam fastball with life through the zone, used to attack and over power libertyville batters to get ahead of the count, sat 86-88 mph throughout the outing and topped 89 mph. Working off the fastball was a slider with 10/4 movement with bite when thrown down in the zone sitting 78-79 mph and a sinking changeup at 80-82 mph. Larson has struck out 22 batters in 15 innings and has a 1.40 era. At the plate, Larson had the team’s lone hit in the seventh inning to break up the no-hitter.

RHP Sam Larson (Lake Forest, 2023) displayed one of the stronger arms in attendance over the weekend. He ran his fastball up to 86 mph with life through the zone, working from a long, high ¾ arm slot. With his projectable 6-foot-2, 180-pound frame, it would not be a surprise to see an up-tick in his velocity through the coming years as he continues to develop physically.
