Webster University commit. 5-foot-8, 180-pound frame, strong lower body. Repeatable delivery, stays balanced and under control throughout, stride works on-line down the mound; uses his lower half well by getting a good load into his back leg. Barrera added roughly 6 mph to his fastball since the last time we saw him. His fastball sat 83-85, touching 86 with some arm side movement. Featured an effective curveball with 2/8 slurvy action at 69-74 mph. Changeup is thrown with the same arm speed and arm action as his fastball at 74-75 mph, with sink and feel for the bottom of the zone. Barrera threw 4.2 innings against No. 7 Marist, striking out 5 and allowing 1 earned run.

5-foot-7, 165-pound right-handed pitcher, durable build. Started and stymied an athletic Homewood-Flossmoor lineup showing advanced feel and pitchability for his 2021 classification. Went four innings of two hit ball, walking one and striking out four. Delivery is simple and clean, sturdy coiled balance, sits on back side, closed landing with toe striking even and twisting open, leg swings over body at release. Arm plays long out of a high ¾ slot, regular arm speed. Pounded the zone with three pitches, mostly the fastball and slider. Fastball worked straight with slight cut, seemed to change eye levels, sat 78-79, topped 81 mph. Slider had some tight spin, nice wrinkle pitch, 66-68 mph. Changeup had some run with arm speed, no velocity recorded.
