Spring Hill (AL) commit. Listed at an athletic 6-foot-2, 180-pounds with proportional strength and upside. Van Daff impressed by limiting the extremely potent Downers Grove North offense to one run over five innings of work, scattering five hits to pair with four strikeouts and one walk. The southpaw has some deception to his delivery, hiding the ball well into a coiled balance point before firing through with a low ¾ slot, looking extremely tough on left-handed hitters. He worked his fastball up to 81 mph, sitting mostly right at 80 mph in the cold weather, boasting all sorts of sink and run through the zone and missing under barrels consistently. He went to a 1/7 curveball at 66-68 mph, kept mostly down in the zone to pair off the fastball.
LHP Tommy Van Daff (York) and RHP Xzavier Vargas (Lyons Township) are two uncommitted arms who threw well for Team 3. Van Daff works from a low-¾ slot and struck out five in two innings of work while Vargas struck out two while running his fastball up to 85.8 mph.

SL: 64-65 mph. Downer 1/7 shape, thrown for strikes with fastball intent. T1978, 1796 average rpm.
CH: 73-76 mph. Plays with heavy fading action, maintains similar fastball arm-speed. T1763, 1678 average rpm.
Athletically built at a lean 6-foot-2, 175-pounds, Van Daff shows some upside in his build with room for added strength in the coming years. Working exclusively from the stretch, the left-hander drops quickly into his back knee from balance point, dropping and driving down the mound while remaining in-line with the plate throughout his stride. His arm plays long out of the glove, transitioning into a ¾ slot. Van Daff sat comfortably in the 81-83 mph range with his fastball, topping out at 83.5 mph while playing with sinking action through the zone. His curveball plays off a 2/8 plane with some sweeping action, thrown for strikes at 60-62 mph. To fill out his arsenal, Van Daff went to a fading changeup at 70-72 mph, playing with mostly horizontal action and thrown with intent.
