+ RHP Zach Hise (Joliet Catholic HS, IL) started for Cangelosi and tossed four innings, allowing a hit, walk and hit batter while striking out six. Pitching exclusively from the stretch, he touched 90 in the first, sitting 86-89 throughout his appearance. The slider had short, slurvy break and varied shape at 74-77 and accounted for five of his strikeouts. He also mixed in a changeup at 76-79. He is committed to Missouri.


Day One really started to heat up in the 3:30 p.m. timeslot, thanks in large part to Hise. Hise pitched Chicago Elite to an 8-0 shutout in five innings, and the uncommitted right-hander collected 10 strikeouts with plus type stuff for his age. Hise sat 90-91 mph in the first, touching 92 mph, with a hard breaking ball at 77-79 mph and gradually mixed in a change in the later innings. The 6-foot-3, 190-pounder held his velo too, touching 91 mph again in the fifth, sitting 87-90 mph.


Uncommitted 2020, currently ranked No. 19 in Illinois. 6-foot-3, 190-pound, wide-shouldered, durably-built, right-handed pitcher. Started on the mound for Joliet Catholic in game one on Friday. Calm demeanor on the mound, even-keeled approach and goes right after hitters. Arm works clean and quick from a high ¾ slot. Fastball, comes out of the hand easy, thrown for strikes, straight action, sat 85-86 mph. Slider is a swing-and-miss secondary offering; feel, confidence, 10/4 sweeping shape, 72-74 mph. Struck out 10 in his 4.2 innings of work.

5.1.18 - Currently ranked No. 19 in the Illinois’ 2020 class. 6-foot-3, 185-pound, right-handed pitcher; athletic build, wide-shoulders, carries strength well with room for continued development. Made his second varsity start of the season for Joliet Catholic. Composes himself like he belongs on the mound, quiet, calm and confident demeanor. Works from the stretch-only, smooth slow-paced delivery, works on line, head has a tendency to leave early. Clean, uninterrupted arm circle, loose, athletic and easy out front; comes out of a high ¾ window. Fastball comes out of the hand easy, around the zone, works straight, will cut it at times, sat 83-84 mph, touched 86. Looks to have plenty more in the tank. Slider has a chance to be a separator; maintains arm speed, tight spin, flashed late 10/4 break, sat 74-76 mph. Saw one changeup at 75 mph. Just beginning to scratch the surface of his potential. High-follow 2020 right-handed pitcher.

2.18.18 - 6-foot-1, 180-pound right-handed pitcher, lanky athletic frame, young build, highly projectable. Tall and fall delivery, stays level and on-line, strong front side, lands square, balanced finish. Arm action has length, easy fast arm, high ¾ slot. Fastball is straight, controls the zone, 84-86 mph. Slider is hard and thrown with confidence, fastball similar arm speed, 78-80 mph. Curveball played 74-77 mph, hard action. Changeup occasionally cut, 72-74 mph.

7.27.17 - 6-foot-1, 165-pound, athletic, right-handed pitcher with projectability. Repeatable delivery with easy effort, stays in line. Athletic arm action from high ¾ slot. Fastball, sat 84-85 mph. Slider, has feel, thrown 75-77 mph. High follow arm in the 2020 Illinois Class.

7.24.17 - 6-foot-1, 165-pound right-handed pitcher with a projectable frame. On the mound works from a high ¾ arm angle with a loose arm action. Tall and fall delivery with easy effort. Square landing working in line with home plate. Works exclusively out of the stretch. Fastball sat 81-84 topping out at 85 mph. Slider has tight rotation with late breaking action at 74-76 mph. Changeup sat 78 mph. High-upside 2020 arm.

7.14.17 - 6-foot, 170-pound, wiry, athletic, right-handed pitcher. Works exclusively from the stretch, repeats delivery well, stays on-line with the plate, gets extension out front and easy effort throughout. Athletic, clean, loose arm out of a high 3.4 slot. Fastball, thrown for strikes, mostly straight, sat 78-82 mph, touching 83. Routinely went to his slider, got a number of swings and misses; maintains arm speed, tight spin, short, late break, 73-75 mph. High-follow 2020 right-handed pitcher.

7.3.17 - 6-foot, 170-pound right-handed pitcher with a thin frame. Works exclusively from the stretch, easy effort. Athletic arm action with some looseness. Throws from a high ¾ angle. Fastball sat 81-83 mph in the first inning. Settled in at 78-80 in the next two innings of work. Slider, 73-74 mph.
