2022 MLB Draft League: FIU signee; Sturdy right-hander with big-time arm strength, Thompson has a pair of present above-average offerings: a 94-95 mph with 18"+ IVB that gives it excellent riding life up in the zone (36% Whiff%), and a mid-70s changeup that absolutely drops off the table, eliciting ugly swings from hitters on both sides of the plate (66.7% Whiff%).
6-foot, 180-pound RHP with an exit velocity of 94 mph. Starts in an open batting stance with his bat flat behind his head; keeps hands high during load; has an upward swing plane and a high, clean, one-handed finish. In batting practice, showed ability to consistently hit line drives; showed strength in his lower half; got off his back foot well to generate power. On the mound, has a strong lower half, a live arm, an athletic windup and strong follow-through. Stays on top of FB well and locates consistently; 87-88 mph FB with a max of 89. Has great depth and movement on off-speed pitches; locates off-speed low in the zone; 72-76 mph CB. Shows a ton of pitch ability with off-speed depth, a consistent FB and ability to throw all pitches for strikes on command.
Two way prospect out of John Adams. Hits from right side, open setup leg lift trigger. Showed above average bat speed, bat is quick and whippy. Stride to baseball is long but is on time and has good rhythm in swing. Showed gap to gap ability and squared up the ball. In the field showed average actions with good range. Tended to sit on heels, arm strength across the diamond is average. On the mound pitches from high ¾ slot, arm speed is average with not much effort in delivery. Stays in line throughout delivery. Arm stroke is short. FB sat 83-84 T85. Also mixed in CB to rightys that tended to back up on him. CH to leftys showed fade away for weak contact.
