6/12/18: 2019 thick framed smaller RHP, pitches from high ¾ arm slot. Full arm stroke in delivery with quick arm speed. Drop and drive type delivery to the plate with good tempo throughout delivery. FB showed ASR at 88-90 throughout outing. Also flashed sharp late SL shape at 74-78 for strikes. One of the top uncommitted 2019 arms left.
3/31/18 Spring Scout Blog: Uncommitted 2019 arm got the start against good hitting lineup in Roncalli, sat 90-91 with the fastball for 4 innings, big arm side life on the pitch. Struggled 1 inning with fastball command, hit 5 total Roncalli hitters, walking 3. Settled in and threw the baseball well for first outing, finished going 4.1IP, gave up only 3 Hs, allowing 6 ER, and striking out 9 hitters. Stocky strong frame with fast arm, plenty of arm strength. Threw a few tight breaking balls at 76-77, chance to be slider out pitch guy. Changeup straight and firm, 80-82. High follow guy this season, ranked up to #20 in 2019 class.
2/18/18: Stocky, 5-foot-10, 215 pound right-handed pitcher was up to 91 with the fastball, sitting 89-91. Drop and drive delivery. Stays in line, lands soft. Short, quick arm action. Breaking ball has a tendency to stay arm side but did flash a few with tight spin and 11/5 shape. Change-up is flat, shows some arm side fade. Simple delivery with plenty of arm strength.
6/13/17: 5-foot-10, 220 pound right-hander sat 85-88 with the fastball. Quick arm speed from a loose, clean arm swing. Throws from a ¾ slot, creating slight run on the fastball. Breaking ball lacks consistency but shows some 11/5 shape at 72-75. Some refinement could make it a plus outpitch. Shoulders are level. Stride leg lands squared, gets through it athletically. Big, stocky frame, should see continued velocity gains as he matures.
June 2020: Strong, mature bodied righty with good arm strength, running his fastball up to 92 mph with good sink at the bottom of the zone. Gaffney also flashed an 83 mph slider and showed feel for a low-80s change with good arm side life.
