2/23/2019: David Novak, C/3B, Zionsville HS, 2021, 6 foot 1, 190 pounds, uses leg lift to load, has bat speed, and recorded a max exit velo of 95 mph. Hands are back early and low, gets on plane in BP. Has really good tools and skill set behind the plate to project him staying back there in his future. Threw 79 mph from the crouch and had pop times of 2.02-2.10. His athleticism plays well behind the plate with a good release, arm action, and arm strength. David is a very good catching follow for the 2021 class.
6/12/18: 2021 catcher/3B out of Zionsville. Hits from right side, tall open setup in box. Used bat/hand wrap as trigger with leg lift. Stride short and showed some rhythm to swing. Bat speed is average through the zone with short slightly uphill bat path. Showed line drive ability with some pull side pop. Posted an exit velo of 82. Behind the dish showed good setup is a good receiver for age. Exchange is clean and footwork is a little heavy. Showed average arm strength at 74 on pops. Pops ranged in the 2.02-2.1 range. At 3B showed loose easy actions with good footwork. Exchange was quick across the diamond and arm strength was slightly above average at 81.
6/5/18: Hits from right side, open tall set up with medium stride. Good rhythm in swing. Showed above average bat speed for a 2021 and ability to square up the baseball. Showed average actions with a clean quick exchange at 3B. Arm looks above average for a '21. Behind the dish showed average footwork and exchange. Interesting 2021 to follow with a nice hit tool.
2/24/18: 6-foot-1, 170 pound catcher hits from a tall, balanced setup. Big load, has some fluidity. Dives at times. Above average bat speed. Gap to gap power. Uphill path, looks to lift. High exit velocity of 85. Defensively, pop times ranged between 2.13-2.19. Throws had some carry, accurate. Comes out high from the crouch. Quick feet, transfer. High 3/4 slot. Ran a 7.78 60 yard dash.
