6/11/19

6-foot-4, 205-pound RHP / 1B with a 97 mph exit velocity. At the plate, uses rhythm in his hands; has a line drive swing plane; gets off his back foot well for power; uses leverage for an explosive swing. Hit a lot of hard contact around the field during the showcase. Moves well off the bag at 1b; showed athleticism in the field; made strong, accurate throws across the diamond; 81 mph position velocity. On the mound, has a good downward tilt, an over the top arm angle, strong arm action and a fluid delivery. Showed ability to locate all pitches well and kept hitters off balance; 82-84 mph FB; 70-72 mph CB; 78 mph CH. Recorded a 60 time of 7.92. Athletic and confident player who uses his size well.

5/11/2019 Spring Scout Blog: Strong, confident two-way athlete stands in at 6-foot-4, 205 pounds. Has been red hot lately and continued to make a difference in a big win over state ranked opponent Roncalli. Currently ranked in the Top 50 of the 2020 class, Herron's bat should trend him up over the next year and a half. At the plate starts tall with a toe tap and short stride. Upper body works well and hands get through the zone well. Pulled an inside pitch on the hands deep to the left center gap. Some real pull side power but does have a swing that can produce in the RCF gap.

2/16/2019: Grant Herron, 3B/RHP, Center Grove HS, 2020, 6 foot 4, 205 pounds, is an interesting two way talent with his combination of bat speed arm speed. He posted exit velo of 94 mph, and was 82-85 on the mound. Swing has simple load and good separation, while getting on plane to produce loft. On the mound Grant shows good down angle to his fastball and good down action on a CB at 68-71. As he continues to get into his athleticism, this will be a guy people need to see.

6/12/2018: Tall solid framed 2020 3B/RHP. Hits from the right side tall setup in box. Uses hands as trigger with wrap. Stride is short to the baseball and used lower half well at times. Some stiffness throughout swing. Showed line drive ability with a quick bat through the zone. Pull hands through and stays inside baseball. In the field showed soft hands but did tend to field ball deep. Exchange was clean and arm strength was average at 78 across the diamond. On the mound pitches from high ¾ arm slot. Short quick arm stroke. Some tempo to the plate. Stays in line throughout and lands closed. FB sat 77-79. Also mixed in CB at 67-70.

2/25/2018: Big, athletic framed sophomore showcased raw actions at the plate and in the field, plus bat speed at the plate. Small, simple load with upper half inward turn and front foot lift to load, narrow lower half with more length and strength to be added. Lower half works through the swing, overrotates to finish, back foot rolls. Produced loud contact, middle of the field approach with lift. Good swing path with much more potential at the plate to be developed. Defensively, looks the part at third base, long arm action delivery and exchange. Glove works, fields the baseball too deep at times, funnels baseball center of body. Average arm strength with more in there. Heavy feet side to side, ball on the run, more footspeed to be developed. 60 Time: 7.97, Position Velocity: INF-82, Exit Velocity: 87

Pitching: Potential to be a guy on the mound with long, raw frame. Works with good rhythm and direction down the mound, tilt/topple delivery, creates good downward angle on pitches. High ¾ arm slot, long arm swing and action with small stab at the bottom, pitches with some effort, more velo in the tank. Fastball had arm side run, at times downward life, topped at 83, and sat 80-82 both sides of plate. Curveball showed some downward tumbling action, 11/5 break, thrown with decent arm speed, inconsistent still, but has a chance to be out pitch, thrown 68-71. Changeup was pushed at 71-72, fairly straight and heavy. Interesting follow in 2020 class.
