6/15/20

Continuing his comeback from June of 2019 Tommy John surgery, Perkins has regained much of his arm speed and velocity, working up to 94 mph with a 2300-2400 spin rate and plenty of arm side life. Standing 6-foot-1 and weighing 210 pounds, Perkins has a strong, durable build, ideal for a starter’s workload. Throwing from a three-quarter slot, he mixed a hard, tight-spinning (2500-2700 rpm) breaking ball at 82-83 mph and an occasional slider/cutter at 88-89. After an easy first inning Perkins tired in the second as his command, velocity and spin rates all declined. He walked four, reached his pitch count and was removed mid-inning. Ranked No. 54 overall in the 2018 prep class, look for Perkins to compete for a weekend role at Louisville this coming spring and continue to refine his command and his progress as a potential top round pick in 2021.

7/10/17 - Named to Team USA 18U trials roster.

6/29/17 - Pitched three innings, allowing a hit and a walk while striking out five. He threw strikes—65 percent—but was scattered with his command, tending to pull pitches to his glove side. His fastball started out 92-94 and settled in at 89-93. His slider was inconsistent and had big break, but he did flash a couple with wipeout action.

4/11/17:  GAME NOTES - The No. 1 ranked player in Indiana's class of 2018 pitched a complete game on Wednesday night vs. No. 7 Lafayette Jeff.  Finished with 16Ks, 1BB, 2H and 3ER. Commanded the zone throughout the night, throwing a total of 63 pitches, 57 of them strikes.  The fastball held at 91-92 throughout his first 4 innings of work, touching 93 multiple times, and even registered two strikes at 95 mph in the third inning.  In the seventh inning sat 89-90.  The Louisville commit impressed with a hard 76-79 mph breaking ball that showed sharp, late break getting many swing and misses and called strikes.  Also mixed in an 85-88 2-seamer with slight movement. Loose, live arm action throwing from a 3/4 slot.  Athletic delivery with rhythm and balance. Continues to gain strength in the frame, now standing at 6-feet, 200 pounds. High follow 2018 draft prospect.

10/8/16:  Louisville recruit, currently ranked No. 3 in Indiana, No. 16 overall.  The 6-foot, 180 pound stocky, athletic right-handed pitcher again impressed all on site with his fastball and breaking ball combination.  Fastball sat 88-90 with very hard run and command to both sides of the plate.  The loose, live arm action is producing consistent velocity and movement that has held since mid-spring.  Repeatable delivery is clean with a short arm swing.   Breaking ball has 10/4 shape with late depth at 76-78mph.  Perkins presented an ability to pitch backwards and expand the zone when needed.

6/10/16: Athletic-framed 6-foot, 180-pound right-handed pitcher Jack Perkins (Kokomo HS, 2018) is already squarely on the radar of area major colleges while continuing to show progress. He has a live arm, throwing from a three-quarters slot while showing an athletic delivery with balance and rhythm. On Sunday the PBR staff saw him in one inning of work throwing most fastballs in the 90-91 mph range, topping out at 92 with a slight drop off in velocity from the stretch. Perkins also features a hard breaking ball with sharp, late break at 76-78 mph. His overall command is still a work in progress but he has the athletic delivery and clean arm action that predicts an upgrade in this area in the future. We’ve followed the Kokomo HS righty over the last few years as his working fastball velocity has gone from 82-84 mph (Summer 2014) to 87-88 (Summer 2015) to now 90-91 mph.

3/28/16 Game Notes: The highly touted sophomore got the start last night against No. 12 Fishers. He possesses a live arm from a 3/4 arm action.  Last night the fastball was consistently 88-89, touching 90 on multiple occasions.  Flashed a couple of mid 70's breaking balls with sharp, late break. Finished the evening going 4 complete innings, scattering 5 hits, 2 walks 4 strikeouts and 2 runs.  Totaled 74 pitches, 48 of them strikes.

8/2/15 FUTURE GAMES: Perkins is a 6-foot, 180 pound right-hander with a live arm on the mound. A member of Team Indiana at this year's Future Games, Perkins possesses a fastball that reaches the upper 80's consistently.  The fastball has good life with good command. He pitches from a loose, high 3/4 arm action with good balance and rhythm in his delivery.  His breaking ball sits in the 71-73 range with late break while his change up is 76-78.

6/25/15: The 6-foot 180 pound right-handed pitcher showcased a FB that sat 85-87.  FB has late life and was thrown for strikes.  Slider was thrown at 71-73 with late break.  Both pitches were thrown with command.  Jack’s delivery has a  loose, H3/4 arm action and good balance.  Drop and drive type delivery with good rhythm.   Stays in line to the plate, finishes athletic.  Easy effort.  High follow in the 2018 class.  At the plate hits out of a wide stance, minimal stride.  Small load back.  Good use of the lower half with good balance throughout.  Showcased quick hands at the plate, gets to extension. Short, slightly uphill path to the baseball.  Line drive hitter.  Recorded a high exit velocity of 83 mph.  Possesses athleticism in the outfield along with a strong, accurate arm at 87 mph.

5/29/15 GAME NOTES: Perkins is a highly projectable freshman with an athletic frame.  Arm action is short, pitching from a 3/4 slot.  Shows a slight inward turn at the top of his delivery, good balance with some rhythm.  Fastball was 87-88 in the first, before settling in at 85-87. Fastball has good downward plane.  Breaking ball sat 71-74 with depth.  Arm is fairly clean with good arm speed.  High follow 2018 arm.

7/29/14: 5 foot 11 inches, 165 pounds, 7.28/60, Very projectable young player with a live arm. ¾ arm slot and a loose, effortless delivery. His fastball is 82-84 with heavy downhill plain and in the strike zone. He has a tendency to hang his curveball.  Offensively he hits from a crouch with a short stride and a fast bat that stays on a level path to contact, line drive type hitter that sprays the ball and will grow to be a gap to gap power guy. Plus actions at second base with average hands, fluid feet and a good ball transfer.
