6/12/18: The 2019 RHP has cleaned up his mechanics since we saw him earlier in the spring. First step in delivery is now shorter and tempo is much slower to the plate allowing him to be more on time in delivery. Pitches from high ¾ slot. Arm action is long and loose and arm speed is quick. Now works downhill and finishes through pitches. FB showed arm side at 87-89 for strikes. Flashed good CB with future swing and miss potential at 70-72. Also showed improved CH with late fade action at 80. One of the top uncommitted arms in 2019.

 
3/26/18 Spring Scout Blog: The uncommitted 6'3 athletic righty opened up the game sitting 87-89 T91 with lots of 88s in the mix. Pitches from high 3/4 arm slot with simple delivery, long arm stroke in back but quick arm towards peak of delivery and ball explodes out of hand. Fastball showed arm side run and sinking action at times. Commanded FB well to both sides of the plate. At times would miss up in the zone due to not being on time and his arm trying to catch up. Ayres held velo well through 3 innings before settling into the 84-85 range in the 4th. Also flashed a 11/5 shape breaking ball that was 73-75. Command of breaking ball was good as he showed feel to be able to throw it for strikes and for swing/miss out pitch. Overall is still a little raw but has huge upside. 

2/18/18:  6-foot-3, 175 pound right-hander showcased a raw, athletic delivery.  Fastball up to 90, sitting 87-89.  Long arm swing, quick hand.  Throws from a high 3/4 slot.  Will need to clean up timing and finish as he matures.  Breaking ball featured 11/5 action at 74-75 with downhill action at times.  Slows arm on change-up, creates some fade.  Ayres is a high follow with his arm strength and frame that will continue filling in.
