Gray

6/24/13: Gray continues to display plus arm strength, up to 90 mph with his fastball at the Top Prospect Games.  He is transitioning from the IF to the OF where he shows a plus arm between  92-97 mph.  On the mound needs to continue working on throwing strikes.  Breaking ball is a plus pitch at the next level. 

2/23/13: 5-foot-11, 170 pound junior possesses arm strength across the diamond at 86 mph.  His hands are soft and has the ability to pick it.  Moves well laterally and has a quick, clean exchange.  Plays through the baseball with an overall advanced feel for the position.  At the plate uses a balanced setup with a narrow stance and a smooth load.  His stride is short and showcases an explosive lower half.  He gets to extension and is fluid with his rhythm.  Displays quick bat speed with projectable gap to gap power.  On the mound the arm is really quick and works from a 3/4 arm slot. Gray was 84-87 and was up to 89 earlier this winter at a previous event. He has flashed a sweeping breaking ball with good depth, which showed to be a swing and miss pitch. Gray needs to continue to work on creating movement on his fastball, but he is a high follow in the 2014 class. 

Gray is 5-foot-11 inch, 170 pound RHP/3B.  On the mound he shows a high three quarter arm slot with good arm action and mechanics.  His fastball is consistently 81-82 mph, touching 84-85 on occasion.  Gray’s breaking ball shows good tilt and is consistently in zone at 68-71 mph.  He’s continuing to develop his changeup.  From the field Gray shows a good approach with the ability to pick it.  Across the diamond he shows a strong arm at 80-83 mph.  At the plate he shows a good approach with a balanced set up.  Gray shows a compact swing and gets to extension.  He displays good bat speed with pop up the middle and to left.  Gray is a high follow in the 2014 class.
