Fresh off an anticipated matchup between Central State in which he threw well in front of a deluge of scouts, I caught Schweitzer in a more intimate setting on the road against Kent State the following weekend. Standing six-foot even, 185-pounds, the junior lefthander is on the smaller end of the spectrum for pitching prospects, but he has a lean, athletic frame and a loose, repeatable delivery. After allowing a leadoff single to open the game, he then proceeded to retire the next 20 Kent State hitters in order. Sequencing a four-pitch mix, Schweitzer kept the Golden Flashes guessing during the entirety of his start. The left-hander got stronger as the day went along, sitting 88-90 early but topping out at 92 mph in his seventh and final inning of work. He shows hitters two different breaking balls, the better of which is a high-70s bender with moderate depth, but the slider has some teeth as well. Thrown at 83-84 mph with fastball arm speed and late tumble, he shows comfort in throwing his changeup in any count. After his complete game, two-hit shutout where he struck out nine and walked none, Schweitzer was named the MAC Pitcher of the Week for the third time this season.
Five-foot-11, 140 pound left-handed pitcher works with good rhythm and timing down the mound. Tilt to topple delivery. Clean arm swing on the backside. Shoulders stay in line, lands squared. Finishes athletically. Fastball sat 78-81 with some arm side sink. Breaking ball has 1/8 shape with gradual break. Some feel for curveball. Change-up has flashes of late depth, needs more consistency.
