5/13/14 - Dunckel is a 5-foot-11, 165-pound wide-shouldered, strong, athletic right-handed hitting third baseman for Washburn Rural. During pre-game infield at third base he showed quick feet, soft hands and a loose high ¾ throwing motion – making throws with good carry. Rural has a senior-dominated line-up, so Dunckel didn’t play in game one, but we did see some at bats in the second game. He hits from a slight crouch and takes a very aggressive hack, sometimes losing balance and falling towards the plate but he definitely generates some bat speed. Although we didn’t get a home to first base time he’s clearly a strong, efficient runner. This spring Dunckel is hitting .355 (.500 OBP%) with two doubles, a triple, 12 RBI, five HBP’s and four stolen bases. He has good bloodlines as his father Keith Dunckel pitched in the Padres organization in the early 1990’s.
