2/21/16 - Hegarty is a 6-foot 180-pound left-handed hitting first baseman in Kansas’ 2017 class from Blue Valley HS.  He ran a 4.53 home-to-first and has an exit velo of 87 mph. At the plate, balanced set up, loads with linear move in back leg, no hand movement, short stride, aggressive and quick hands, used the middle of cage during batting practice showing some power.  On the infield, high three quarters release, quick catch and throw to start double play, soft hands, 57 mph positional velo. On the mound, delivery with good tempo, rhythm and flow. Maintains body control throughout. Three-quarters arm slot, arm works. Fastball with late cut/sink life, 84-87 mph, around the plate. Has shown a velocity increase over the last few year (topped out at 81 last winter), getting better. Breaking ball with 1/7 shape, at times sharp action, 69-70 mph. Change-up with arm-side fade, dies away from right-hander’s bats as it approaches the plate, maintains arm speed, deceptive pitch, 73-74 mph. Mid-80’s lefties with feel for three pitches tend to log a lot of innings in college baseball and if Hegarty continues to progress that is very likely to be the case.
1/19/15 - Hegarty is a left-handed pitcher and first baseman that attends Blue Valley HS in Overland Park, KS. 6-foot, 175-pound frame, bats left.  Class of 2017. Tall set-up at the plate, leg kick, some length in load, loose hands, generates leverage, bat speed, finishes with extension. Swing with rhythm and flow, has some juice. Exit velocity 88 mph – top mark in camp. Ran a 4.50 home-to-first base. At first base showed athletic footwork, clean exchanges, loose three-quarters arm action, some accuracy. On the mound under control early, throws from tall balance point, picks up tempo during delivery, high three quarters slot. Fastball consistently 79-81 mph, high percentage of strikes, velocity trending up since the fall. Command of breaking ball with 1/7 shape, tight spin, good pitch. Change-up 71-74 mph.
10/22/14 - Royals Junior Scout Team - Athletic delivery with flow, 77-79 mph fastball. Breaking ball with 1/7 shape, 64-66 mph, tight at times. Works fast, pumps strikes.
