2/21/14 – Layton is a 6-foot-2, 180-pound 1B that runs a 4.69 home-to-first. Layton is aggressive getting to the ball with good footwork and a quick exchange. He has a high ¾ release with throws topping out at 75 MPH. Offensively, Layton has good bat speed to extension. He consistently squared up the ball to both gaps during batting practice. He has good rhythm and balance throughout the swing. Layton has an exit velo of 84 MPH, one of the top marks for infielders.
