8/1/15 - Maxson is a 6-foot 190-pound right-handed hitting outfielder and right-handed pitcher. During batting practice, Maxson started from a tall stance and used a leg kick to generate power. He has loose hands and a short path to contact, creating balls with back spin to the pull gap. He ran a 7.90 60 and hand an exit velo of 91 mph. In the outfield, Maxson has a clean exchange and over-the-top release. He made accurate throws at 80 mph.

With good footwork and good carry on his throws, reached a top positional velo of 83 mph.A good runner that move for his size and defend in the outfield, posting a 7.10 60/yd. A simple easy and slightly open stance, and a quick short stroke that produces line drives in BP also a double in game action.

10/19/14 - Maxson is a strong, athletic 6-foot, 190-pound right-hand hitting catcher and outfielder. At the plate has a balanced set-up, open stance, inline stride, smooth hand load, short bat path, fast bat, extension through the baseball, maintains balance throughout. Powerful swing that repeatedly produces hard contact in the gaps. Recorded an exit velocity of 88 mph, the second best mark in camp. In the games, drove the ball to the middle of the field with authority collecting a single and triple, both to center field. He also threw out a would-be base stealer at second base. In the outfield showed athletic footwork, clean exchanges and high three-quarters arm action, throwing velocity up to 82 mph. Runs well for a physical player registering a 7.10 60-yard dash and 4.39 home-to-first from the right side. Maxson’s bat projects in a big way and he has the athleticism to play multiple positions.
6/18/14 - Maxson is a very physical 6-foot, 190-pound right-hand hitting catcher. During defensive evaluations Maxson showed quick feet and a quick over-the-top throwing motion. His throws to second were timed from 1.95 to 2.08 with his top throw clocked at 74 mph. His throws were all on or near the bag. During hitting drills he demonstrated a tall set-up and slightly open stance. He strides inline and sets his hands with a backward hand load. His swing is upper half dominant, relying on his strong upper body to drive the ball middle-oppo. His top exit velocity registered at 85 mph. He ran a 4.44 home-to-1B from the right side. In the games Maxson reached base three times in four at bats and threw out a would-be base stealer at second base. Just entering his sophomore year, Maxson is an impressive catching prospect and will be ranked accordingly when our initial class of 2017 rankings are posted later this summer.
