Cape Cod: Goodwin has been a mainstay of the K-State lineup for two years, and he posted an .879 OPS with 11 homers and 18 doubles as a sophomore this spring, though his strikeout rate also climbed (57 K in 204 AB). He was one of the best hitters on the Cape this summer, ranking 11th in the league with a .268 average, tying for second with 10 doubles and third with six homers (one off the league lead). Goodwin has plenty of strength in his sturdy, compact frame at 6-foot-1, 195 pounds. He has a quiet approach and shows the ability to barrel up fastballs as well as offspeed stuff; we saw the righthanded hitter pull a homer to left against a good 81 mph slider away, but he can also work inside the ball and drive it the other way. Goodwin is also a good athlete with average speed and has solid range at second, but he needs to become a more consistent defender, as evidenced by his 19 errors this spring and eight errors in 41 games this summer. He played shortstop this spring at K-State but profiles well as an offensive second baseman.

+ SS Nick Goodwin (St. Thomas Aquinas HS, KS), a Kansas State commit, is currently ranked No. 5 in the Kansas 2020 class. 6-foot-1, 180-pound, strong, athletically-built, right-handed hitting shortstop. Opened up the nightcap of Day one with a no-doubt, two-run, home-run, to deep left-center field. Also lined out sharply to center field in his second at-bat. Starts from a balanced, quiet setup, ready to hit when he steps in the box. Aggressive early and often, hunts the fastball and looks to elevate to the pull-side of the diamond. Quick, strong hands, present bat speed. High-level 2020 right-handed bat.
