6-foot, 195-pound solid frame. Above average at the plate, Matthews clocked an exit velocity of 95 mph. Begins in a balanced stance with a big load, then uses a small leg kick. Has a flat swing plane, above average bat speed and good extension on his finish. He barreled up multiple balls with loud contact. Gap to gap approach. While catching, he produced a position velocity of 74 mph during throw downs; shows a clean exchange, consistent hands, and average feet. Showed his ability to throw runners out with an efficient pop time of 1.98-2.10. Average flexibility and calm setup. Consistent accuracy to the bag, used a short arm action with a high ¾ slot. In the 60-yard dash, his time was 7.21.
