2017 First Team All-State

3/28/17 Louisiana State recruit, currently ranked No. 2 in Louisiana’s 2017 class, No. 20 Overall. Strong 6-foot, 180-pound frame, athletic build. Premium left-handed bat, that has had significant draft buzz this spring. Athletic, balanced setup, occasionally will implement a leg lift, but mainly sticks with short stride. Smooth load with simple, direct path, consistently on time, present bat speed and strength at contact. Has shown an uptick in athleticism this spring, consistently posting 4.1 home to 1st times. Finished the day 1-for-2 with two walks, two runs scored, two RBI, and long, towering home run to right field.

Louisiana State recruit, currently ranked No. 2 in Louisiana’s 2017 class, No. 18 Overall, and No. 36 in the PBR draft 100. Athletic 6-foot, 180-pound frame with strong lower half, developed strength in wrists. One of the premium left-handed high school bats in the 2017 draft. Hits from balanced setup, smooth load that creates quality separation, short stride with leg lift, and gets into strong position when front heel lands. Fluid, easy rhythm throughout swing, level to slightlyuphill bat path, maintains barrel path throughout the hitting zone, and shows solid average bat speed.

+6/26/15 2017 OF/LHP Daniel Cabrera (John Curtis HS, LA), who’s the No. 6 overall ranked prospect in our coverage area, showed off his elite athleticism in the final game of the day. The left-handed hitting LSU recruit roped a triple to left-center field, and dropped down a bunt in which he got down the line in 3.90 seconds. He’s also a top-level outfielder and a strike-thrower on the mound.

+6/23/15 OF/LHP Daniel Cabrera (John Curtis Christian HS, LA) is a 2017 and arguably had the best round of batting practice on the day. He uses a leg kick load and exhibits a quick bat with a smooth, easy swing. He hit lots of hard line drives from left center to his pull side. He has a tight, wiry frame at 6 feet, 180 pounds and showed an average arm in the field.

5/18/15 A 6-foot, 170-pound Louisiana State commit with an athletic, strong frame and ranked No. 1 in the ’17 class. Left-handed hitter with advanced hit tool, bat speed, quality leverage in swing, and advanced hand-eye coordination. Hits to all fields with backspin, smooth runner with tracking instincts in the outfield. Left-handed pitcher with clean, smooth delivery, strong front-side and repeats extremely well. Fastball sits 86-88 mph with life and command. Shows a tight spinning breaking ball with 2/8 shape, depth, deception and late, hard break at 74-76 mph. Shows an above average changeup with fastball arm speed, deception, and plus late, hard fade action with depth. During his sophomore spring Cabrera hit .566 with 6 home runs, 31 RBI, 10 doubles, 40 runs scored, and slugged 1.013. On the mound he posted a 1. 43 ERA in 39 INN with 60 strikeouts to 12 walks on the way to winning a state championship.

12/18/14 A major impact type talent with a 5-foot-11 170 pound frame, Cabrera has already made plenty of noise on the Louisiana High School baseball scene.  On the mound, he displays a loose whippy arm, with ball exploding out of the hand with little effort, pitches 84-87 touching 88.  In addition to the fastball he shows a quality breaking ball with 11/5 shape, tight spin, and plus depth.  Shows an advanced feel and command for the baseball.  Left-handed hitter with smooth swing, extraordinary rhythm, timing and presence at the plate.  Consistently barrels balls at an eye-opening rate, with strength at contact, and backspin.  Hits to all fields, swings and misses rarely, and has present pull-side power.  Smooth athlete with good defensive instincts and tracking speed.  The game almost seems to slow for him at times.

2020 DRAFT: Cabrera put together a strong summer in the Cape (.287/.369/.400) following a solid sophomore spring for LSU (.284/.359/.516 with 12 home runs in 256 plate appearances). He even improved his speed over the summer and fall, getting clocked at 6.6 seconds in the 60-yard dash, and impressed the LSU coaching staff with his improved jumps, routes and range in the outfield last fall. He also showed he could play a capable center field, though he profiles best as a hitting machine on a corner, and his thicker lower half doesn't lend itself to a long-term speed profile. He's a capable corner outfielder with above-average arm strength and good carry. Cabrera was off to a torrid start in the abbreviated 2020 campaign, hitting .345/.466/.500 with two homers, six steals, and more walks (14) than strikeouts (12). The lefty-swinging outfielder has excellent hands at the plate and generates above-average raw power with good hips and natural loft through his fluid swing. He creates moderate length through his load and easily overcomes it with good bat speed and excellent feel for the barrel. His top exit velocity this spring was 102.6 mph with an average of 92.5 with an average launch angle of 12 degrees. All the pieces are in place for a future above-average power bat with a solid on-base profile and hit tool. He projects to go in the first round this summer and will likely sign, as he's physically and mentally ready to play at the next level.

11/10/19: 6-foot-1, 191-pound frame with present athleticism and strength. Currently No. 42 on the 2020 PBR Draft Board, quality production through two seasons in the SEC. Hit .282 with 12 homers, 12 doubles, and 50 RBI in his Sophomore season (2019). Possible Day One target in the 2020 Draft, premium left-handed hit tool with above-average raw power. He’s athletic and fluid in the box, swing looks easy. Mature approach in BP, sprayed balls from gap-to-gap. Stays through balls to the backside, drives it with authority and backspin to the left-center gap. Mainly played corner in his first two seasons, could potentially play center in his junior season. Didn’t get much action in-game, but flashed promise tracking a ball down in the gap to his glove side, showing average range with quick first step. Solid average arm strength, accurate throws with good carry. (Sofio)

8/20/19: Cabrera put together a strong summer for the Mariners (.287/.369/.400) following a solid sophomore spring for LSU (.284/.359/.516 with 12 home runs in 256 plate appearances). The lefty-swinging outfielder has excellent hands at the plate and generates above-average raw power with good hips and natural loft through his fluid swing. He creates moderate length through his load and easily overcomes it with good bat speed and excellent feel for the barrel. The in-game pop was a little more limited than expected this summer, but all the pieces remain in place for a future above-average power bat with a solid on-base profile and hit tool. Cabrera is a capable corner outfielder with average arm strength and good carry. He projects as a Day One target for the MLB Draft but has a little work to do to lock down a first round spot. There will be plenty of opportunity hitting in the middle of LSU’s lineup and the ceiling is that of a top ten collegiate bat. (Faleris)

7/9/18Replaced an injured Antoine Duplantis on the roster and ignited a sleepy CNT offense with a home run and RBI single in his first game. Cabrera is a natural hitter with gifted hands and easy power. Great balance with a leg lift load. Stayed back well. Has a great positive move toward the baseball, allows the ball to travel to him and connects his back hip, elbow and hands extremely well. Let's his hands work independently from his body and gets great extension through the ball. Ranked #1 in D1Baseball’s top freshman hitter analytics. Look for Cabrera to be a key bat in the CNT lineup this summer and next. He should also anchor the LSU lineup over the next couple seasons as he develops and solidifies his status as a potential first-rounder in 2020. (Seifert)

2-27-2018: Exciting prospect and a potential 1st rounder for the 2020 draft. His bat is what excites the most. He’s a masher with big power. The team who selects Cabrera will be buying a bat, but he also has other tools with an average arm and average running speed underway. At this point, he’s a better base stealer than base runner, needing some polish on his decision-making going 1st to 3rd, but he definitely has the instincts and the passion to play the game a long time, and at a high level. (Seifert)
