6-foot-3, 230-pound strong mature frame. Advanced in the box, Cornelius had an exit velocity of 93 mph. (70.5 mph bat speed average). (23.3 mph hand speed average). Started in an athletic open stance with a smooth load, then used a controlled toe tap stride. Bat speed is explosive, uses a loose upward swing plane and high finish. He found multiple barrels with tons of loud contact. Gap to gap approach. Behind the plate, throw downs to second were maxed at 75 mph; has soft hands, a lengthy transfer, and smooth feet. he produced a pop time of 2.16-2.19. Some flexibility and flexible athletic setup. Consistent accuracy to the bases, used a high ¾ slot with a long quick arm action. In the 60-yard dash, recorded a time of 7.4. Advanced on the mound, showed lightning arm speed, he had a long loose arm action with a high ¾ arm angle. Tall-and-fall type pitcher who shows easy effort. Has a strong balance point and in line shoulders. Lands square with an athletic finish. Produced a fastball that came in at 85-88 mph; has arm side control and sinking action with heavy movement. (Max spin 2148; Avg 2077). His 2/8 slider (69-72) has glove side command and swing and miss late action. (Max spin 2427; Avg 2250).

Evan Cornelius: RHP/C, (2023) out of Milford, MA. is a physical 6-foot-3, 230-pound two-way prospect. During batting practice, Cornelius recorded an exit velocity of 92 MPH, with a (67.1 mph bat speed average) and (21.7 mph hand speed average). He hits out of a balanced, athletic stance with the hands set just off the back shoulder. He loads well to the backside before starting the bat head through the hitting zone. His swing has real bat speed and travels along a flat path. He continued through contact and produced a lot of loud contact during his round. Behind the plate, Cornelius showed a strong, quick arm and good feet. His throws reached 80 MPH out of a higher ¾ slot. His initial set up is staggered, with the glove set in the middle of his chest and his head up. As he transitions to throw, the feet get the hips in line with second base and the shoulders follow, allowing him to make consistent throws. His transfer is clean and he finishes over his front leg. On the mound, Cornelius showed a quick arm, life on the fastball and a tight slider. The delivery is simple, easy and in line with the plate. He gets to a good position at the top and finishes over the front leg. The fastball has late run at 86-87 MPH. He also shows a tight slider (74-75 MPH) and a changeup with fading action (79-79 MPH). 

Cornelius is a physical, 6-foot-2, 220 pound right-handed hitting catcher. He hits out of a wide, slightly open stance, with the bat tapping off his back shoulder. That tapping and a slight knee slide began a swing that generated a lot of loud, hard contact. The bat stays through the hitting zone well on an uphill path and he finishes balanced, culminating in a max exit velocity of 91 MPH.

Defensively, Cornelius shows athletic feet and a strong arm behind the plate. His initial stance is balanced and square, with the glove set in the middle of the chest. As he transitions to throw, the feet, hips and shoulders quickly get into a strong position to throw in line with second base. The ball exchange is clean and allows his arm to work freely. He finishes over his front leg, keeping his line with the target and recorded a max velocity of 78 MPH.

On the mound, Cornelius’ physicality was evident. He creates a lot of force heading down the mound. He begins with a big leg kick to balance over the rubber. Once there, he’s able to create consistent direction with home plate. He uses a higher arm angle that produces downward, sinking action on a fastball that sits 79-83 MPH. Cornelius also showed off an impressive slider at 70-72 MPH. The pitch had tight spin, with hard biting action. He also mixed in a change-up at 62-65 MPH with good arm side sink.

Overall, Cornelius is an impressive two way prospect. He’s not only physical but extremely athletic. He moves well behind the plate, his swing is balanced, with juice and there is definite arm talent on the mound.
