7/08/20

5-foot-10, 180-pound right-handed hitting catcher. The showing was very good, once again, as he is a good player. He ran a 7.34 sixty as he moves well for the position. He threw 76 mph with a pop time of 1.84. The transfer is solid as the feet work and the throwing path is simple. The receiving is solid and he shows the ability to secure the catch. The bat has an exit velocity of 89 mph. The setup is even in base and the bottom half is under control throughout the swing. The arms are short so that allows him to get the bat head to certain areas others normally would not be able to. The path is short and compact, showing a 1-handed finish after contact.

McManus is a talented 5-foot-8, 160 pound prospect.  The right-handed hitting catcher continues to impress.  At this event, he had an exit velocity of 82 mph off the tee.  He hits out of a wide, squatty stance with the hands in a relaxed position off the back shoulder.  The load is simple and allows the weight to get to the back leg. The swing itself is direct and flat through the hitting zone.  The result, is a simple stroke that produced a lot of hard contact, with carry.

Behind the plate, McManus is a plus defender.  The feet are soft and move well as he transfers to throw.  He’s able to get the shoulder and the hips in line with the target.  His glove to hand ball exchange is good, with the ball ending up in a strong position to throw.  At this event, he was 72 mph down to second base, with a 1.9-2.0 second pop time.

McManus is a prospect that I have seen on a couple of occasions and continues to impress.  He’s a plus defender and the bat is a weapon.

The 5-foot-8, 160 pound right-handed hitting catcher displayed a compact, quick stroke that shows some definite power potential, as shown by his tee exit velocity of 82 mph.  The initial set up is athletic and balanced, with the hands in a strong position.  The load is short and gets him to a good position to hit. For a young hitter, he stays balanced throughout and hits the ball with authority to all fields. Also showed the ability to run with a 7.3 sec 60.Behind the plate, he receives well.  The catch and throw skills are solid for such a young player.  He was 71 mph down to second base, with a 2.0 pop time.  The feet get into a good position and the glove to hand transfer is quick.  He gets to the throwing position quickly, with minimal wasted movement. This is a young guy with a ton of ability and potential!

5-foot-8, 160-pound right-handed hitting catcher. Very advanced skill set behind the dish for his age. Threw 72 mph down to second base with a pop time of 1.96. The feet and transfer work online and quickly. The receiving is trending the right way, needs to continue to soften the catch. Ran a 7.38 sixty at the event. The bat has a tee exit velocity of 80 mph. The setup is even in base, front foot steps into the swing. The path is clean, flat and he stays behind the ball. Took a very solid round of batting practice. High follow

5-foot-7, 150 pound right handed hitting catcher.  Threw 68 mph from behind the plate, pop time of 2.18. The stance is good.  The feet transition well into the throwing position.  The glove exchange is good to a short arm path.  The bat had a tee exit velocity of 74 mph.  The set up is open and gets back to square in the launch position.  The hands move back quietly and the path through the zone is flat and aggressive. Had a lot of hard line drives during his round.  Has a chance at the plate.  Good looking young player on both sides of the ball.

 JUNIOR FUTURES
5-foot-6, 135-pound right-handed hitting catcher. Ran a 8.08 sixty on the laser at the event. The catching tools are solid, the feet work appropriately and the slot is clean. Threw 67 mph down to second base during the defensive portion of the workout. The pop time is 2.24. The receiving must continue to improve as he matures, working on softening the glove and securing the catch are vital. The bat has a tee exit velocity of 72 mph. The setup is wide in base, high back elbow to start. The front foot has a small pick up and put down as the ball approaches. The hands work clean and free to the ball.
