Positional Profile: RHP/1B
Body: 6’4”, 220 pounds. Strong, solid, physical, projectable frame.
Delivery: Starts with a longer, side rocker step into a waist high leg kick. Balance point doesn’t seem to always be consistent, but does get down the hill well towards his target. Lands in a good, athletic fielders position.
Arm Action: RH. Throws downhill out of a high three-quarter arm slot.
FB: T74 mph, 71-73 mph. Straight, arrow-like action out of the hand.
CB: 62-64 mph. Loopy, 11/5 action.
CH: 67-68 mph. Slows body and arm down while throwing.
Strong projectable frame standing 6-foot-4, 220-pounds. On the mound Perez starts with a side step rocker, repeatable leg lift that showed some pace, and flexion in the back leg. Sits in back leg before moving towards the plate with hips level and shoulders closed and uphill. At stride he lands on line and finishes towards the plate with a recoil post release. Hands break low, long arm action, and throws from an over the top slot. Fastball sat 73-74 and touched 75 on occasion with downhill plane. Breaking ball was 63-64 mph with a bigger 11/5 shape and showed a solid feel for it around the plate. Changeup was 66-67 with nice arm speed.
MD MoCo Fall Review
Strong, solid body type and projectable 6’4’’, 220 pound frame. Hits from an open stance at the plate with weight pre-loaded on back side. Smooth back load with a front foot toe-tap. Stays behind the ball well with some lower half involvement. Creates quick bat speed through the hitting zone with a level swing path. Top hand comes off the bat early after contact and finishes swing hard with one-hand. Pull-side approach at the plate with present power. Recorded a 77 mph exit velocity. Works through the ball at first base and fields it out in front from a taller set-up. Throws with short arm action from a high three-quarter slot at 71 mph. Up-tempo, hard side-step wind-up and high leg kick into a tall, compact balance point. Clean hand separation and controlled down-to-out lower half drive down the mound. Lands square to the plate and gets over front side well with an athletic finish and slight arm recoil. Throws with long arm action from a high three-quarters slot with regular effort. Fastball sat 73-74 mph and breaking ball showed hard 12-6 shape at 61-63 mph.
