6-foot-3, 215 pound prospect. High ¾ arm slot with clean mechanics working downhill with his long lanky body. Keeps fastball down in zone well at 82-85 mph. Change-up had good sink at 68-70 mph and curveball sat 65-68 mph. Ran a 5.38 home to first. Wide base with good weight transfer at the plate in a pull approach. Bat speed registered at 78 mph.

6-foot-4, 180 pounds with a long, lanky frame.  Uses a relaxed smooth motion with easy effort.  Throws through a high 3/4 slot with long arm action.  Loose easy arm that should see future jumps in velocity.  Fastball features heavy arm side run at 78-81 mph.  His 64-66 mph curveball displays gradual 12/6 movement.  Also throws a 71-73 mph changeup with near fastball arm speed.

1/4/14
6-foot-4, 180-pound prospect with tall, lanky frame. Displays long arm action through high ¾ to over the top arm slot. Creates momentum to the plate. Fastball sat at 78-81 mph (previously up to 86 mph) with straight action. Tended to be up in the zone. Best off-speed pitch is a 62-65 mph breaking ball with gradual 11/5 action. Also displayed a developing 65-66 mph changeup with some sink to it.

Schmitz didn’t get much attention last year because Dakota was so senior laden but expect this 6-foot-4, 175-pounder to contribute in a big way to his Dakota program.  The right-hander still has work to do in terms of smoothing out his delivery but he has a good foundation.  His fastball worked between 84-86mph with a loose arm.  His slot is a over-the-top and a bit inconsistent at this point.  His secondary needs polish but shows signs of having good feel.  He flashed a 74mph breaking ball that had good rotation.
