Tyler Schmidt the 4th ranked prospect in the Michigan 2015 class and a Marshall commitment showcased why he is one of the best two-way players in the state. Schmidt ran 7.03 60-yard dash. Showcased loose athletic actions from the outfield with his footwork and glove. Plus carry in his arm topping at 90 mph from the outfield. From the left side of the plate showed quick twitch athletic actions with his quick hand path through the strike zone. Has a knack to barrel balls up in a pull side approach. On the bump showcases a loose, quick high-¾ arm action from the left side of the mound. Fastball was 85-86 mph. Forkball is a plus out pitch at 77-78 mph. Changeup at 75-78 mph and curveball at 73-76 mph with good command.
6/25/13 Schmidt is an extremely athletic 6-foot-2, 150-pound athlete. Has an extremely high upside. Still learning the game but has raw physical tools. Well above average speed at 6.74. Plus arm from the outfield (93mph) Throws were accurate and on a line. Looseness in the swing at the plate. With good backspin and gap-to-gap potential. On the mound was 84-86mph. Ball ran all over the place. Still needs some refinement. Secondary stuff is still needs to improve.
