2022 MLB Draft: Once a two-way prospect, Gilbert's hitting jumped ahead of his pitching this spring. The 5-foot-9, 185-pound stick of dynamite elevated himself into first round consideration thanks to a slash line of .362/.455/.673 with a .312 ISO and 33 walks against 32 strikeouts. At the plate he sets up with an open stance and has some serious left handed bat speed. With compact strength, he also has good pop to his pull side. Gilbert is also a plus defender in center field. He is sure-handed, gets good reads off the bat and runs precise routes to the ball. With all that stated, 65-grade arm strength is his top tool.

Once a two-way prospect, Gilbert's hitting has jumped ahead of his pitching. Ranked as a potential third rounder in our preseason Top 250, the 5-foot-9, 185-pound stick of dynamite has already elevated himself to the top 60 picks overall thanks to a huge slash line of .490/.611/.863 with 17 walks against eight strikeouts. He runs plus and has some serious left handed bat speed. At the plate he sets up with an open stance and has very good hand speed. With compact strength, he also has good pop to his pull side. Gilbert is also an above average defender in center field. He is sure-handed, gets good reads off the bat and runs precise routes to the ball. With all that stated, 65-grade arm strength is his top tool. A similar SEC player from the past is Dominic Fletcher (Arkansas) who went second round (75th overall) to the D-Backs in 2019 or as a current Major Leaguer think Kole Calhoun. To top it all off, Gilbert is a GAMER!

10/13/20

Two-way prospect whose hitting has jumped ahead of his pitching, despite a low-to-mid-90s fastball off the bump. Gilbert showed a simple, up-the-middle approach and very good hand speed. With compact strength, he also has good pop to his pull side. As a 5-foot-10 left-handed hitter, think Cole Calhoun (D-Backs/Angels). An average runner, he also showed plus arm strength with below average accuracy from the outfield. He could also see significant time on the mound, especially if four-game weekend series return this spring to college baseball.

6/20/18

Gilbert was dominant in the MN State Tournament; leading Stillwater to the Class 4A State Championship with his bat, defense in the outfield, and two dominant starts on the mound. In his first outing; Gilbert was consistently 90-93 mph from the left-side, primarily 93, while touching one 94 and one 95. The quick twitch athlete also shows ability in the field covering considerable ground in the outfield, and is also a threat offensively with surprising pop in the bat to the pull side of the field, and looks capable of possibly being a 2-way threat at Oregon State.

7/10/17

2017 PBR Future Games- 5-foot-10, 155-pound left-handed hitting 2-way player. Oregon State commit. #51 ranked prospect in 2019 PBR Overall Rankings. 6.93 runner. Aggressive swinger, body load, slashy line drive swing plane, above avg. pop for size, mid/pull approach, 89 mph exit velocity. Easy actions in field, strong arm with online throws, shows accuracy and carry, 91 mph arm strength from outfield. Uptempo delivery, arm is extremely quick from high ¾ slot. Shows life to both sides of plate. Breaking ball has tight 1/7 spin with late break. Was 85-88 mph on the mound with a 70-73 mph breaking ball.

3/18/17

5-foot-10, 145-pound left-handed hitting 2-way player. Lean athletic build with proportional strength. 6.95 runner. Upright stance, simple load with leg kick trigger, hard line drive contact with middle/opposite side of field, consistent hard contact, 88 mph exit velocity. Confident fielder with athleticism, uses feet, creates throwing angles, loose above avg. arm with carry to target, 89 mph arm strength from outfield. On mound; controlled to balance point, aggressive down mound, stays closed with front side, has direction to plate. Long buggy whip arm action producing 86-87 mph fastballs, touching 88 mph, with arm-side life. Tight rotation on 1/7 breaking ball; thrown with fastball arm speed. Changeup is work in progress, avg. feel, tends to shorten arm stroke. Highest of follows in 2019 MN class.
