2/18/13: A member of Team Missouri at the Midwest Future Games, Horstmeier is a projectable 6-foot-3, 182-pound who shows ability both in the outfield and at shortstop. In the outfield, Horstmeier is quick and aggressive to the ball, with good range and the ability to get into good throwing position while playing through the ball. His top throw was 85-mph. In the infield, Horstmeier showed to be a sure handed fielder with a quick exchange and short, quick arm action across the diamond, with accurate throws (81-mph). Offensively, Horstmeier has a easy, level swing with quick hands through the zone generating fast bat speed. He shows good extension through contact driving the ball on a line gap to gap, and a top exit velocity of 85-mph off the bat. Horstmeier should continue to be one of the top Class of 2014 players.

6/13/12:
One of the most impressive and versatile participants of the event, the 6-foot-2, 175-pound Horstmeier has the ability to be a top Class of 2014 player. In the outfield, Horstmeier moved with purpose to the baseball, taking quick routes and being in position to have his momentum toward his target. He demonstrated solid arm strength (81 mph) with accurate throws from the outfield and played through the ball. At shortstop, he plays through the ball well, in addition to showing soft hands and an accurate arm across the infield (78 mph). At the plate, Horstmeier continued to impress with his balanced approach. He showed excellent hand acceleration through the zone, which produced consistent hard line drives. He also demonstrated repeatable rhythm throughout his swing. Horstmeier continued to show his athleticism with an impressive 6.72 60. Horstmeier also showed promise on the mound, as his arm works with ease and quickness. Coming from a high 3/4 slot, his fastball sat at 78-81 mph, topping at 83 mph with some sinking action. His 65-66 mph breaking ball demonstrated late, sharp bite, and could develop into a legitimate out pitch once he commands it. Horstmeier also showed feel for his changeup, which has arm side run and some depth.

Horstmeier has a projectable 6-foot-2, 170-pound frame and has the potential to be an impact player on the mound and in the field as he progress and becomes more physically mature. On the mound, Horstmeier came from a high ¾ arm action with good arm action and repeatable mechanics, delivering a 79-81 mph fastball, topping at 83 with some late arm side run. He also showed a late moving 11-to-5 breaking ball (66-68 mph) and a 71-74 mph change up. In the field, Horstmeier showed good footwork and good fielding mechanics with accurate 79-83 mph throws across the diamond. At the plate, Horstmeier used a good lower half and barrel whip to show some pull side power. He also ran a 4.34 home to first.
