8/5/15 - Newell is a 5-foot-11 175-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in the 2017 class.  Newell ran a 6.90, one of the top times for the event, 60 and has an exit velo of 77 mph.  Newell had a good round of batting practice, showing power and feel for the barrel, athletic stance, loads hands, middle-to-pull approach, power to pull gap, fast bat path, stolen base in game action.  On the infield, 74 mph positional velo, high three-quarters release, fields ball in athletic position, clean exchange, soft hands, mostly accurate throws.
6/16/15 - Newell is a 5-foot-11, 175-pound right hand-hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2017 class. He ran a 60 time of 6.99. High 3/4 arm slot, fluid footwork, quick/clean exchange, plays through. Position velo at 75 mph.  At the plate, Newell has an athletic setup with a smooth load, strong lower half. Swing produces line drives, middle approach, level bat path. Exit velo at 84 mph. Newell is a drop and drive type delivery, with a quick arm.  He creates in line direction and finishes in an athletic position.  His fastball was down in the zone at 75-77 mph, topping at 78 mph.  He has a 12-to-6 curveball with gradual break at 52-54 mph and a change-up at 65-68 mph, near fastball arm speed.
9/27/14 - an athletic 5-foot-10 165-pound SS/RHP, positional velo of 74 mph, ¾ quick release, quick footwork, mostly accurate throws with carry. At the bat, has 83 mph exit velo, level bat path, line drive approach, comes out of back leg, runs a 6.97 60 and 4.71 home-to-first. On the mound,  high ¾ release, quick arm speed, smooth rhythm, stays in line, straight fastball at 76-80 mph, 11-to-5 shape curveball, good command, gradual break, 59-64 mph, change 66-71 mph.
