7/6/14 - The very thin 6-foot tall McKay shows easy, athletic actions in the infield and a loose arm with an out-in-front release point on the mound. Right now he lacks firepower – velocity (fastball topped out at 78 mph), bat speed, etc. – but weighs just 140 pounds. As he gains size and strength he’s likely to climb the 2016 prospect rankings rapidly.
5/16/18 - Arizona State commit. Lean, wiry, long-limbed frame. Works from a ¾ slot with a loose arm swing. Fastball started out at 90-92 with average life at the bottom of the zone, topping 93 and 94 once each in the first inning. His changeup was his best off speed pitch at 83-85, he throws it with fastball arm speed and arm side depth. His slider was 79-82 with 10/4 shape and flashed tight spin and sharp lateral break. He can spin it late in the count for a chase pitch, but was not able to effectively locate it in the zone for a strike. The pitch would either back up on him or he would lay it in there with flat spin in the heart of the plate. Took the loss, giving up five runs, only two earned, on six hits, two walks, and six strikeouts.
