3/26/19: Athletic bodied at 6-foot-3, 200 pounds, Packard is an advanced left-handed hitter with an effortless swing and easy, repeatable mechanics. He is currently ranked No. 1 in D1 Baseball's recent Outfield Power Rankings. Showed above average bat speed with leverage and little effort as the ball jumped off his bat to all fields, especially left-center, during batting practice. During the game, the bat speed decreased as Packard was a little out of sync. Had more slider bat speed during his game at-bats, including one ten-pitch plate appearance in which he worked a walk. Ran a 4.38 to first base while hitting into a 4-6-3 DP. Defensively, he showed a below average arm during I/O and serviceable actions, looking a bit uncertain, but catching a high fly ball during game action. Overall, the bat will have to carry him. Packard profiles as a marginal defender in left field and doesn't possess the speed or arm strength to impact the game. Regardless of his limitations, he is one of the premier college bats in this draft and will likely be considered during the early rounds of Day Two. (Seifert)

9/10/18: Advanced lefthanded hitter who stands out most for his hit and power tools. Aggressive approach with good pitch recognition and the ability to drive the ball with authority to all fields. Plus bat speed and good leverage in swing, giving him a chance to be an above-average to plus hitter with above-average power. The bat will have to carry him, as Packard profiles defensively as a serviceable left fielder whose speed and arm tools do not stand out. A pars defect in his back hampered Packard as a freshman, and he still wasn't 100 percent for much of his sophomore season, but he nonetheless hit .406 and won American Athletic Conference player of the year honors.
