7/25/19

In the mix of his team getting run-ruled, Soorus was one of the better players on the field. He doesn’t exactly turn heads with his stock 6-0, 180-pound body, but the last two innings of the game belonged to him. In the top half of the 6th, he smashed a towering double to left that was a few feet away from a home run. Then in the bottom half, he stepped on the mound and flipped an easy 86-88 mph fastball, with a biting 76-78 mph curveball. If not for nothing in this game, Soorus is a guy to watch, and while it would be nice to see him extended a bit on the mound, he did enough to warrant a follow for the rest of the week.

08.07.18
5 feet 11, 185-pound build with a strong lower half. Athletic presence and a multi-sport guy.  Hits from the right side using an open setup. Has some bat wrap during his load but barrel does work short to the ball.  Gets his strong lower half through the ball with above average bat speed, with his exit velocity peaking at 93 mph. Athletically plays through the ball in the outfield with quick, fluid feet and average hands. Long arm action, throwing from a high ¾ slot with carry to his throws.  Accurate arm that topped at 86 mph form the outfield.  Average hands on the infield with a long arm action and carry to his throws peaking at 81 mph across the diamond. In game his swing is still raw, with a lot of movement but has above average bat speed.  Athletic player with upside who can play different positions. Recorded a 6.97 in the 60-yard dash.
On the mound, the fastball plays heavy at 81-85.  Working out of a quick hand it is easy to project more coming.  Occasionally cuts the fastball to his glove side at 81-82.  Breaking ball has depth with a sharp, power 11/5 tilt ranging 68-70.  Slows the arm on the change, gaining occasional sink at 72-75.  Ability to pitch off the fastball – curveball combination, attacking the zone and expanding at times.  The change is still maturing to be added to the arsenal.  Strong base and stable head through the delivery.  Easy, repeatable process to balance.  Long arm swing to a high-3/4 slot with some effort as the hand works with quickness to release.  Level and on-line throughout.  Finishes in an athletic position.

01.21.18
A utility player with strength and quickness in an average 5-foot-10, 185 pound frame.  Turned in a quick 2.87 twenty yard dash time.  Worked out on the infield flashing premium arm strength with a clean stroke and high-3/4 slot, peaking at 88 across the diamond.  Average rhythm in the feet and the hands can soften, but showed an ability to catch the ball consistently as he plays through the catch.  Offensively, works from an open stance, striding to even with his hands set high and above his ear.  Loose load back, with rhythm, setting the hands in a powerful position at launch.  Aggressive backside creates better than average bat speed with a good feel for the barrel.  Tends to work for extension, creating a pull tendency.  Power potential is there with a current exit velocity of 89 mph.
On the mound, continuously worked down hill and down zone with a fastball sitting 81-83.  Long arm stroke and quick hand gets to a high-3/4 slot with some effort as he maximizes each pitch.  Fastball does play heavy.  Shows feel for change-up, ranging 71-73, maintaining is arm speed and creating arm side fade.  Early in the year, he limited his breaking ball, only throwing a couple at 63-64, slowing the arm.  As the year progresses, this pitch will too.
