10-16-18: High level of interest from scouts as the reigning Cape Cod League MVP.  Solid day at the Fighting Camels scout day that is just an appetizer to the spring season where Barefoot could play his way into a good draft position.  Average frame with strength present in the hands and lower half, standing 6-foot, 205 pounds.  Ran a 6.69 sixty on the turf with an ability to hold top end speed through the course.  The bat is the tool that will carry Barefoot through the next level.  Right handed hitter has a lot of pre-launch movement coiling into his back leg while the hands work from a shoulder height position with a flat barrel to a position slightly below the shoulders allowing the bat to launch from a 45 degree slot.  Uses a leg kick to help with the load and timing, working with a stride that takes him from an open position to even, without gaining much ground.  Good rhythm in BP between the hands and feet working with a fluid action and producing good leverage through the ball.  Whippy bat speed through the zone with a very high feel for the barrel.  In game action, seeing a different arm each inning, Barefoot struggled to replicate the same rhythm he showed in BP, but there is plenty of history on him to suggest the barrel awareness will translate in game.  There is a good feel for the strike zone and patience in the approach. Pitchers need to make multiple pitches in an at-bat to get him off his timing.  Interesting matchup in Barefoot’s 3rd at-bat saw him face RHP Jonathan Tyler.  Tyler attacked Barefoot with a 1-0 and 1-1 sliders at 84 and 85 mph respectively, getting Barefoot to swing through each pitch.  Tyler finished with a 94 mph fastball dotted away that froze Barefoot. Defensively, the arm strength may limit Barefoot’s positioning.  A little stiff working through the ball he is working to be quick with his transfers and accurate with throws, knowing the carry is below average.  Low slot with effort through the release working a short arm swing trying to load the scapular.  Average tracking ability with some comfort as he begins to stride out when ranging for the ball. 8-15-2018Six-foot, 205 pounds with an athletic build and strong frame. Barefoot went out and slashed .379/.474/.521 across 140 at-bats during the regular season for Hyannis. His efforts earned him an All-Star nod, the “Pat Sorenti MVP” award and the “Thurman Munson Batting Champion” title. At the plate, he starts tall with a balanced and relaxed set-up. He sinks down and coils into his back hip as he gets ready to hit. Although it’s a lot of movement, the hands stay back and create a powerful stretch in his core. Once his stride foot is down, he’s in a strong, athletic position with his entire body. From there, the swing is loose and quick with a high level of adjustability. Advanced approach and pitch recognition. Rarely commits to a pitch too early. Shows enough bat speed to defend against velo when down in the count. Power plays better gap to gap presently. Flashed lift in swing to pull-side during BP. Best time down the line was 4.25. Defensively fits best in LF with a borderline average arm. Barefoot will see plenty of attention from evaluators in 2019 as he looks to have another big season for Campbell. (D Jurik)
