Lean build with strength and quickness. Right handed hitter works from a tall base with a leg kick to a short stride. Hands load with a “C” action, tilting the barrel toward the pitcher, creating whip and bat speed. Average barrel awareness as he “just missed” several hittable pitches, but found the barrel several times with two strikes. Loud contact when on the barrel, creating good exit velocity as the ball jumped. Above average runner that should have a chance to stay in the middle of the field. On the mound, there is some effort in the arm action as it works to a high-3/4 slot. Fastball worked 84-86 in the first, falling off and settling in at 78-81 for most of the game. Breaking ball has some late downer action, with feel for the strike zone, ranging 62-68. Cheek worked into the 7th inning, getting the win. He also went 1-3 with a walk and scored the game tying run in the top of the 7th.
