A true utility player, Nichols worked as a catcher, infielder, and pitcher, flashing some feel for all three spots. From behind the dish, the 5-foot-7, 140 pounder flashed a pop times ranging 2.12 – 2.38.  Arm strength topped at 65 from the crouch.  Stance works with the left foot slightly exaggerated forward.  Exchanges were clean, working with a short arm swing to a high-3/4 slot.  Tended to recoil out of extension, affecting accuracy at times.  Right handed hitter works from a balanced stance.  The load is early and creates a little wrap behind the head.  From a short stride, the bat works through the zone with a little length, but created barrel contact, staying gap to gap.  Swing can shorten as strength is added to the frame.  Exit velocity topped at 75 off the bat.  On the infield, catches the ball with some ease, working to a high-3/4 slot with a long arm stroke.  Lacked the ability to fit his slot to his feet on range plays.  Flashed arm strength at 70mph from short.  Ran a 30 in 4.80.  As a pitcher, shows the ability to float his slot from a 3/4 to a side slot.  Long arm stroke has some stiffness as the body is working to fit the multiple slots.  Filled the zone up with strikes from both slots with all pitches.  Fastball ranged 66-68 with the slider showing a sweeping action topping at 59.  Change-up has some fastball tendencies with arm action and hand speed, sitting 60-62.
